Job Summary

The NOC (Night Shift) Clinical Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team responsible for drug therapy monitoring at the point of order review, drug distribution, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents in the area of pharmacy distribution where applicable, conducting clinical research, participating in Department Committees, task forces, and work groups, and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships. They also participate in general operational patient care activities and provides support to various pharmacy areas as needed.

The NOC Clinical Pharmacist works in a satellite or Central Pharmacy to facilitate drug distribution and provide clinical services across the continuum of care. They are responsible for dispensing and monitoring a variety of distribution-related procedures and medication management, coordinating care with providers, and working to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. They also provide quality and cost effective pharmaceutical care to patients, employees, and medical staff of UCDMC. They are also responsible for coordinating care with providers, working to ensure successful legal and regulatory compliance efforts, and patient safety.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • Work experience in an Inpatient Pharmacy setting
  • Thorough understanding and competency with aseptic technique and safe handling of non-hazardous, hazardous medications as well as controlled substances.
  • Ability to coordinate, lead, and direct the work of pharmacy technicians, residents and students, and establish priorities of workflow in a Central Pharmacy.
  • Computer skills that facilitate medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with other staff and patients.
  • Working knowledge of sterile products and IV additive preparation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification (e.g. BCPS) or equivalent experience.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or equivalent experience
  • Drug distribution skills and techniques or ability to learn efficiently.

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
