Graduate Estimator

IPS is hiring! We are looking for a talented Graduate Estimator to join our team to be based at our EMEA office located in Dublin or Cork, Ireland.

The Graduate Estimator (the 'Graduate') will work closely with multiple disciplines within the business. The Graduate will interface with Senior Estimators, Cost Managers / Quantity Surveyors and Procurement resources within the business who together provide many of the commercial deliverables / functions associated with Client expectations. Training, mentoring and continued professional development will be managed by the senior estimator appointed to work with the Graduate.

Initially the Graduate will be required to learn how to research and build a detailed estimate / cost forecast related to specific elements of a typical project cost being the HVAC and Piping Utilities (Black and Clean) that form a significant percentage of most project estimates. This is considered the 'Primary' role of the Graduate.

In due course the Graduate is also expected to become adept in the estimation of other elements / disciplines related to any project such as, but not limited to, Electrical, Automation and Civil works, however in the first instance the business requires that the Graduate is to become a 'Subject Matter Expert in the Primary expertise for which this role is initially envisaged.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide estimate of costs related to the primary role of the Graduate however to also assist the senior estimator in other aspects of the entire estimate.
• Work with all disciplines to obtain data required to build estimates within the range accuracy required at each stage of the design process.
• Build and maintain a database of cost information relevant to the Graduates' primary role.
• Maintain adequate backup documentation for reference during subsequent phases of the project up to and including construction execution.
• Provide historical data to other disciplines within the company as required.
• Establish and maintain a network of trade partners who will provide market information relevant to the primary role of the Graduate.
• Assist the Senior Estimator in whatever function is required from time to time but especially in the effective review, issue / handover of the estimate at the end of each design stage to the next party responsible to provide either updates during the next design stage, or at the point it is deemed by the Client to represent the baseline budget for a project.
• Provide support information, explanation and revision as necessary in respect of ongoing change management involving 'Value Engineering', Target Value Design', and ultimately 'Variation' either during the stages of design prior to construction, and eventually during the construction of any given project.
• Assists the 'Post Contract Administration' as required in review of Trade Partner change management submissions.
• Assist with the evaluation of estimating effort required for 'Proposals' which the business is invited to participate in from time to time.
• Attend meetings, take minutes and communicate with project teams as required to perform the primary function of the Graduate.
• Train and become efficient with existing estimation templates using Microsoft Excel.
• Train and become efficient with dedicated estimation software (to be determined) which is expected to replace Excel as the primary estimation tool in the short to medium term.

• Bachelor's degree / diploma relevant to the primary role of the Graduate subject matter.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills dealing with all team members, including but not limited to Client representatives, Trade Partners the business management.
• Good attention to detail & record keeping, with an analytical approach and ability to work using your own initiative.
• Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Software
• Exposure to MEP and Cost Estimating systems is a distinct advantage, but not essential as mentoring and specific training will be provided by the business
