Position Overview
The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides speech-language pathology and audiology services to the KU, Lawrence, and surrounding communities. The Schiefelbusch Clinic is also a clinical education site for undergraduate and graduate students studying speech-language pathology and audiology. The Schiefelbusch Clinic audiologist provides direct and indirect audiological services to our clients. These services and responsibilities are outlined below. This is a temporary, part-time position that will end on December 19, 2025.
Job Description
40% - Provide audiologic services to clinic clients, including the following:
- Diagnostic audiologic assessments, including air and bone conduction audiometry, speech audiometry, acoustic immittance testing, and otoacoustic emissions assessment
- Hearing aid exams, fittings using real ear measures, maintenance, and repairs
- Hearing conservation and custom hearing protection
40% - Provide clinical education to undergraduate students in the areas of:
- Planning and instrumentation
- Diagnostic audiologic assessment
- Hearing aid dispensing
- Hearing conservation
- Counseling
- Clinical documentation
20% - Coordinate with the Schiefelbusch Clinic Office Manager and Student Office:
- Assistants to organize a clinic schedule, and to bill clients and third-party payers (e.g., insurance).
Required Qualifications
- Clinical doctorate in audiology (AuD)
- Licensed to practice audiology in Kansas (or eligible)
- Licensed to dispense hearing aids in Kansas (or eligible)
- Previous experience that required written communications skills, as evidenced by application materials
- Experience with electronic medical records and billing, as evidenced by application materials
- Previous experience that required organizational skills, as evidenced by application materials
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching in higher education, as evidenced by work history
- Previous experience as a clinical professor/instructor/supervisor, as evidenced by work history
