What's the role?

The Clinical Applications Specialist III (CAS), without supervision, must be able to assemble Zeiss instruments, attach their peripheral devices, perform advanced troubleshooting, train technicians and/or doctors on instrument operation, and communicate basic equipment maintenance procedures in a manner that reinforces the customer's buying decision. Support field training of Level I and II CAS, both technically and administratively. Spearheads rollout of new products.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Resourcefully manage a high volume of on-site trainings within a given territory by maximizing territory management.
  • Install equipment, including removing from containers and full installation. Suggesting improvements in processes and reporting appropriately.
  • Deliver high level tailored training for doctors and staff in operation and clinical applications, in an exemplary manner.
  • Represent ZEISS in a professional and courteous manner to customer and amongst organization that is recognized by others.
  • Proficiently complete/facilitate data transfer from old to new equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with CAS in adjacent territories to coordinate on-site trainings.
  • Aggressively seek opportunities to assist in other territories, or take on additional responsibilities.
  • Inform management when available to travel outside own territory as needed to support business needs, or take on additional administrative projects. Demonstrates understanding of the Zeiss business culture, market demands and how to best leverage resources.
  • Possess thorough, in-depth knowledge of the diagnostic ophthalmic industry & share that knowledge with their CAS colleagues in a manner that improves team efficiency, training quality or customer care.
  • Serve as the customer and/or fellow CAS liaison and subject matter expert on administrative and technical/clinical issues. Frequently takes ownership of difficult situations and follows through to resolution.
  • Communicate in a timely, respectful and professional fashion with fellow CAS team members and other in house colleagues. Promoting effective relationships with all to drive higher levels of customer satisfaction to be emulated by others.
  • Acts as a change agent and align around company decisions. Takes a leadership role in promoting changes in a positive manner.
  • Promote the growth of CZMI by actively identifying & communicating sales leads, billable trainings, service contract leads.
  • Regularly use most efficient tools provided perform necessary administrative tasks, in a complete, accurate & timely manner as directed. Looks for more efficient procedures to carry out current tasks. This includes but is not limited to expense reports, CPOs, CRM & Product Training Checklists, without having to be reminded by management.
  • Consistently adhere to "CAS Responsibility" document, and encourages others to do so.
  • Use business expertise to analyze and make recommendations to improve business processes (ie. Territory alignment,)
  • Other duties may include, but are not limited to setup and instruction on Carl Zeiss equipment at Convention and/or Seminars, and other management assigned projects.
  • Maintain currency of, and adhere to applicable GMP and ISO 9001 processes and procedures. Abide by state and federal employment law.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support training of Level I and II CAS, both technically & administratively, including organizing of educational activities..
  • Mentor new hire or contractors independently.
  • Perform field evaluations on less experienced CAS
  • Assist in the new hire interview process.
  • Routinely provide feature improvement feedback to appropriate product manager for existing products based on customer feedback and observations.
  • Serve as CAS product lead by participating in the product rollout process by visiting beta-sites and independently conducting training on initial instrument shipments. Provide feedback to product manager. Assist in the assembly of training content and conduct detailed training of CAS colleagues on new instrument.
  • Support management with resolving field issues.
  • Effectively and enthusiastically assist with the daily operations of the team by providing interterm support in managements absence.
  • Develop training content and present lectures/workshops at Conventions, Seminars, and/or Corporate meetings.
  • Manage and complete special projects on time and within the quality parameters specified.

Do you qualify?

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in an ophthalmology clinic setting or in the diagnostic ophthalmology industry or comparable experience.
  • Minimum of 1.5 years at the Level II position.
  • Must hold industry standard credentialing.
  • In depth knowledge of all CZMI products that are trained by the CAS team.
  • Stellar communications skills (written & verbal) and the ability to work with customers others in challenging situations is required.
  • Demonstrates exceptional judgment and decision making with defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate answers.
  • Advanced level skills in computers and accompanying software. (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must travel overnight and work occasional weekends.
  • Must possess project management skills
  • Well organized and capable of working independently with no supervision, while remaining accessible to junior team members for guidance and direction.
  • Requires valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain sufficient credit to cover incurred business expenses which will be reimbursed upon expense report submission and approval
