Overview
NaphCare is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sterile Compounding Clinical Pharmacist to join our collaborative and fast-paced team at our Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL. This unique role blends advanced sterile compounding expertise with clinical and managed care responsibilities to ensure safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication management. Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
Prepare sterile compounded medications (hazardous and non-hazardous) adhering strictly to USP <797> and <800> standards.
- Oversee pharmacy technicians and support staff engaged in sterile compounding and IV room activities.
- Calculate and verify accurate dosing for compounded sterile products.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to sterile compounding and clinical pharmacy services.
- Implement, maintain, and monitor quality assurance and control procedures for sterile compounding.
- Maintain accurate documentation of compounding activities, clinical interventions, and medication reviews.
- Provide drug information, education, and training to pharmacy staff and healthcare providers related to sterile compounded medications and clinical therapies.
- Review patient medication profiles for drug interactions, therapy appropriateness, and recommend alternative therapies when indicated.
- Conduct clinical reviews of non-formulary medication requests, including prior authorizations, collaborating closely with providers to ensure appropriate therapy.
- Assist with clinical pharmacy consultations, including but not limited to pharmacokinetics, renal dosing adjustments, antimicrobial stewardship, and disease state management.
- Perform additional clinical pharmacy tasks as assigned to support patient care and medication management.
Qualifications
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school
- Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in Alabama
- Alabama Board of Pharmacy Parenteral Certification required
- Minimum of 3 years' experience preferred in sterile compounding, preparation, dispensing, and clinical monitoring of IV medications within a healthcare setting
- Residency training (PGY1 or PGY2) and Board Certification (BCSCP, BCPS, or equivalent) preferred
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in managed care, formulary management, prior authorization review, and clinical pharmacy services.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex drug information to healthcare providers.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
