Experienced and visionary Lead Engineer opportunity to spearhead the design, development, and commercialization of Zurn Wilkins' new Master Mixing Valve platform. This role will lead multidisciplinary product development efforts, ensuring the mixing valves meets industry benchmarks in temperature control, connectivity, safety, and field serviceability. The ideal candidate will drive product architecture decisions, system integration, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional coordination to bring this critical solution to market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Leadership: Drive the design, development, and integration of Zurn Wilkins' Mixing Valve systems, from concept through launch, including hardware, firmware, and controls.
  • System Architecture: Define and validate core performance requirements, including valve control precision, fail-safe operation, digital communication, and response time per ASSE 1017/1070.
  • Connectivity & BAS Integration: Lead design decisions around protocols like BACnet, Modbus, and MQTT to ensure seamless Building Automation System (BAS) compatibility.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Management, Electrical, Firmware, QA, and Field Engineering to define technical requirements, product trade-offs, and user-focused features.
  • Field Commissioning & Serviceability: Oversee field trial validation and develop strategies for commissioning support, diagnostics, and firmware updates.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure system design supports compliance with plumbing and life safety standards (e.g., Legionella risk mitigation, lead-free, NSF/ANSI, ASSE).
  • Supplier & Sourcing Coordination: Collaborate with Procurement to identify and validate key valve, sensor, and actuator suppliers, ensuring quality and cost targets are met.
  • Voice of Customer (VOC): Engage directly with stakeholders (contractors, specifiers, facility managers) to translate needs into actionable product specifications.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor engineering team members in control systems design, product validation, and quality-driven development practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Systems Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of product development experience in HVAC, plumbing, or building control systems, with at least 2 years in a lead or principal engineer role.
  • Proven track record of developing complex electro-mechanical systems with embedded control logic and field communication protocols.
  • Deep knowledge of digital and electromechanical valve control technologies, sensors, and flow/temperature dynamics.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards including ASSE 1017, ASSE 1070, NSF/ANSI 61, and building codes relating to hot water safety and Legionella mitigation.
  • Experience with Agile product development and Stage-Gate commercialization processes.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for supplier visits, field testing, and customer collaboration.
Preferred Experience
  • Expertise in digital water mixing, thermal balancing, or similar temperature-critical applications.
  • Experience working with plumbing design engineers, contractors, or MEP specifiers to define installation requirements and mitigate adoption friction.
  • Exposure to cloud-connected product ecosystems or IoT platforms.
  • Familiarity with competitive mixing valve products

Salary Range: The compensation range(s) identified below are a good faith estimate of the salary expected to be paid as performed from these locations. Actual salaries may vary based on a variety of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, education and training; and other relevant business and organizational factors. Most candidates will start in the lower half of the range.

* California - $109,261 -$150,234
