DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you are essential to maintaining the safety and efficiency of our roadways, particularly during the demanding winter months when snow removal is crucial. Your role extends beyond just clearing snow; you also contribute to various construction projects that enhance infrastructure and ensure public safety. Each day brings new challenges that require physical labor, highlighting the importance of teamwork and commitment. In addition to operating heavy machinery, you are responsible for performing minor repairs and conducting preventative maintenance on your equipment and trucks. Accurate record-keeping is also a key aspect of your job, as you complete daily logs and reports to monitor equipment usage and maintenance history. This documentation is crucial for operational efficiency and promotes accountability within the team. At the end of the day, you can take pride in knowing that your efforts significantly improve road safety and enhance the quality of life for many residents, making your work as an Equipment Operator both fulfilling and impactful. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours vary from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Hours may vary and overtime may be required during weather events.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
- Certain positions require the operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
