The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking reliable and motivated student employees to join our Conference and Event Services Setup Team. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and have a passion for creating memorable experiences for others. As a member of the setup team, you will play a critical role in transforming university spaces into welcoming, professional environments for a wide range of events, including academic, social, and community gatherings. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience in event operations and facility logistics while contributing to the vibrant campus life at SNHU.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Event Setup: Execute detailed setup plans for events, including the arrangement of staging, tables, chairs, signage, pipe and drape, and other event infrastructure. Ensure layouts align with diagrams and meet safety and accessibility standards.

  • Logistics Support: Load, transport, and unload event equipment using appropriate tools such as carts and dollies. Safeguard all materials during transit and maintain organization of equipment before and after events.

  • Venue Preparation: Ensure event spaces are clean, presentable, and properly arranged, including placement of trash bins, podiums, and accessibility features. Conduct a final walkthrough to verify readiness.

  • Team Coordination: Communicate and collaborate with fellow crew members and full-time staff. Adapt to evolving event needs and delegate tasks as necessary to ensure the timely completion of responsibilities.

  • Troubleshooting: Respond quickly to any on-site issues such as missing items, last-minute layout changes, or equipment malfunctions. Report concerns to the Event Operations Coordinator or on-call supervisor.

  • Safety Compliance: Follow university and department safety protocols during all aspects of the setup and teardown process. Use safe lifting techniques and report unsafe conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate day program at Southern New Hampshire University.

  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic.

  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working in team settings.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative during setup tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Capacity to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting, bending, and being on your feet for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Availability and willingness to work variable shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on event schedules.

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about event equipment, including audiovisual systems, lighting setups, and portable staging, is a plus but not required.

The Conference and Event Services office operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for general office hours. However, setup shifts will vary from week to week and may include evenings and weekends, depending on event schedules. All shifts will be assigned with consideration of the student's class schedule.

We believe real innovation comes from inclusion - where different experiences, perspectives and talents are celebrated. So if you're wondering whether SNHU is right for you, take the leap and apply. You might be just the person we're looking for.
