Job Title: Senior Statutory Accountant

Division: Finance

Job Summary: The Financial Analyst will be a proactive member of the finance team. The primary responsibilities of the position will be provision of accounting and financial operations coupled with financial analysis, research, and technical expertise. The position will aid in ensuring the integrity of financial information and reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly accounting entries, support documentation and control documentation for general finance functions (including but not limited to):
    • Calculate monthly premium tax accrual estimate
    • Maintain the fixed asset inventory
    • Record paid loss and commission activity for the third party reported books of business
    • Calculate and record premium earnings
  • Assist in preparing the quarterly and annual financial statements for GAAP Group reporting and Statutory stand-alone reporting
    • Analyze and post subsidiary reports to consolidated ledger
    • Prepare quarterly US consolidation elimination entries
    • Assist in preparing documentation, and coordinate internal and external financial statement audits
    • Review, investigate, and report errors and inconsistencies in financial entries and documents.
    • Monitors compliance with promulgated accounting principles and company procedures
  • Perform certain treasury functions, including initiation of wire requests, and monitoring of state deposit activity and requirements
  • Monthly cash accounts reconciliations, including follow up and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner
  • Monthly expense accruals, including analysis and financial statement recording
  • Assist with annual premium tax returns, including installment payments made during the tax year for assigned states
  • Cross training/ support of Sr. Financial Analyst's responsibilities, in addition to other duties as assigned by the Controller

Personal Specification:

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 2 Years' Minimum Accounting experience, preferably in the property-casualty insurance industry
  • Public accounting or Corporate Accounting experience preferable

Skills and Abilities

  • Technical accounting knowledge including experience documenting and researching technical accounting answers required
  • Solid financial analysis skills

  • Intermediate time management/ prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions
  • Intermediate business perspective including an understanding of the political nature of the organization
  • Navigate ambiguity to deliver results

Knowledge and Experience

  • Solid knowledge of accounting concepts/theories (GAAP & NAIC statutory)
  • Solid knowledge of insurance accounting and reporting concepts/theories
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • General Ledger experience

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
