Join us as our new QC Lab Technician

This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for testing and evaluating if products meet both internal and industry specifications. This is achieved by using both standard and customized laboratory equipment, and industry compliant procedures for a food manufacturing facility.

In this role you'll make an impact by:

  • Actively participating in all internal safety programs and adheres to all relevant safety guidelines
  • Performing all required in-house quality control testing on samples for approval and in accordance with written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Work Instructions, etc.
  • Performing routine equipment calibrations or verifications (e.g., scales, pH meters) in compliance with testing and production parameters
  • Conforming and promoting all stated and implied food safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards and guidelines, including, but not limited to, FDA guidelines, GMPs, internal certification standards, etc.
  • Coordinating and performs inoculation of seed material inoculum used in large scale fermentation
  • Utilizing aseptic techniques to ensure sterility of all media, equipment, and work area
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records in appropriate company database (SAP, LIMS) of all conducted tests, evaluation, and analyses
  • Keeping detailed and accurate records of training received
  • Completing assigned production journals, batch records and/or lab requisitions
  • Communicating any testing nonconformance to relevant stakeholders e.g., QC Management, PMG, QA, Production, as necessary
  • Assisting with training and onboarding of staff in areas of attained proficiency
  • Actively participating in all internal Continuous Improvement programs and KPIs (Kaizen, Metrics, Lean, 5S)
  • Keeping lab and work area clean and orderly
  • Employees must comply with the safety and hygiene requirements for production and warehouse areas, following applicable federal, state and local laws as well as facility good manufacturing practices (GMPs). These requirements include, among other things: no jewelry, false fingernails, nail polish, false eyelashes, heavy perfume/cologne, bobby pins or small hair clips while in production and warehouse areas; adherence to personal hygiene and other health requirements; limitations on food and beverages in production and warehouse areas; and limitations on cell phone usage while in the facility.
  • This role is performed in a laboratory/manufacturing environment where exposure to materials containing allergens, such as milk and dairy, may occur. Individuals with sensitivities or allergies to these substances should consider this when applying. Appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are provided to minimize exposure risks.

To succeed you must hold:

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and Equipment Manuals
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from colleagues, other departments, and auditors
  • Ability to perform and interpret Basic Mathematical functions
  • Ability to adapt and use Critical Thinking tools when Problem solving
  • Ability to develop a Continuous Improvement mindset in-house support of an established companywide culture
  • Ability to interpret testing results and follow SOP document for appropriate action
  • Ability to operate a variety of lab equipment and instruments, and a variety of office equipment
  • Possess a working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and compliance requirements
  • Intermediate Level proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Office, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to use metric volume measurements (e.g., mL) and temperatures measurements in Celsius (C)
  • Perform basic dilution series on product in accordance with specifications or recipes.
  • These characteristics are normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field or three years full-time experience in a laboratory environment.

Working Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature, and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is always required in designated areas. This includes, but not limited to, wearing a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and/or gloves. A dust mask is required when working with powdered media substances. Weekend and holiday work may be required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
