Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The role of large shapes specialist is to operate hand-controlled mechanisms to pour and regulate the flow of refractory into molds. Facilitate the safe and efficient preparation, mixing, casting, firing, and finishing of refractory shapes. Complete work orders to build products of optimal quality and ensure on-time delivery. Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Correctly determine required raw materials, supplies, tools, and equipment needed to create refractory shapes.
- Precisely measure mold(s) to verify quality and dimensional accuracy in accordance with drawing specifications; identify molds that are out of tolerance take appropriate action(s).
- Thoroughly examine molds to ensure they are clean, smooth, and properly coated.
- Evaluate the quality of raw materials based on pre-determined standards.
- Measure amounts, temperatures, and characteristics of ingredients, and mix to prescribed recipe to ensure accuracy and uniformity.
- Cast refractory using casting equipment, including vibrators and mounting apparatus.
- Perform QC (Quality control) procedures, such as grinding and finishing, to ensure part(s) meet the defined quality criteria.
- Inspect shape(s) for part strength and integrity, and surface quality and dimensional accuracy discrepancies.
- Safely operate cranes, fork trucks, overhead crane, and electric pallet jack.
- Maintain required department records (i.e., related paperwork and computer transactions), as needed.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) / Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). Prior experience in one or more of the following areas - mixing, casting, firing, finishing refractory shapes or concrete, preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Technical/Mechanical Skills. Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and work orders, and follow directions to determine required materials, supplies, toolsand equipment needed to mold shapes. Ability to use hand operated and power toolsand perform tasks with precision and manual dexterity. Basic mechanical and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and ability to apply form of measurement and other work material calculations utilizing a calculator. Ability to obtain and maintain industrial equipment certifications (e.g., cranes, forklift, and power jack).
- Core People Skills. Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.
- Communication Skills. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and obtain clarification, and respond well to questions.
- Computer/Applications Skills. Basic computer skills and ability to use a variety of software applications systems and scanning technology to clock in and out of jobs and track material usage.
- Core Business Skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling of proprietary and confidential information. Ability to work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to "figure it out". Exceptional prioritization, time management and organizational skills. Ability to read words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

Communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person and in writing. Effectively use a personal computer, basic calculator, and telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working Environment
While performing the essential responsibilities of this position, Team Member generally will work in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. Periodic exposure to outdoor environment through open doors. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as approved footwear, respirators, safety glasses/goggles, required. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
