Job Summary
Applies advanced technical skills and knowledge in the performance of laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or production development.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Performs physical, chemical and mechanical tests that are moderately to complex on products and processes requiring experience and judgement to determine plans and action from standard procedural alternatives.
- Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments to conduct physical, chemical and mechanical tests for experimental, production and vendor applications.
- Selects the appropriate personal protective equipment for the operation to be performed. When using a respirator ensures the respirator is working properly and is properly worn.
- Performs tests on various adhesives and prepregs to include gel, flow, volatility and resin control. Tests materials for compressive and tensile strength.
- Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas. Adds chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications.
- Tests solutions used in processes such as anodizing, waterproofing, cleaning, bleaching, and pickling for chemical concentration, specific gravity, acidity or other characteristics using distillation, filtration, titration and extraction and pH meters.
- Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Education Requirements
Minimum 2 Year / Associate Degree. Laboratory testing. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.Experience Requirements 4-7 year(s) Laboratory experience. Skills and Competencies
- Equipment may include: microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, viscometer, chemical balance scales, spectrophotometer, gas chromatographs, colorimeters, Rockwell hardness tester, autoclaves, Instron and Satec testing machines and other equipment.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. |
