JOB SUMMARY Works under minimal supervision to ensure efficient operations of lab. The Lab Coordinator (with Research Responsibilities) plays a dual role in managing laboratory operations, in addition to carrying out research activities. This position ensures the lab runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulations, while also contributing to research tasks such as experimental design, data collection, and analysis, communicating with collaborators and discussions. The role supports faculty, researchers, and students in both administrative and technical capacities. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field
- Experience
2 years of relevant experience to include: 1 year experience with state/federal regulatory requirements, such as: Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) guidelines; or 1 year Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs); or 1 year Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements; or 1 year Local requirements (chemical and biohazardous waste disposal, etc.). May consider additional related years of experience in lieu of education. Must meet education and experience certification and training guidelines for equipment and tests used and performed in particular laboratory, as required under federal regulations.

JOB DUTIES
- Coordinates duties, schedules, project activities, equipment usage, operating time, research studies, billing, and space for group of people ensuring efficient operation of a research laboratory.
- Coordinates availability of technical assistance, appropriate chemicals, and special equipment to ensure timely preparation or completion of research projects.
- Oversight of all laboratory and office personnel, maintains personnel records, ensures completion of performance evaluations, and recruits and trains both clerical and technical support using managerial skills according to departmental and university guidelines.
- Ensures all personnel and laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements appropriate to the laboratory space.
- Oversight of all research orders and allocates all laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment; maintains adequate inventory to ensure efficient operation of projects.
- Manages Research Assets and information on warranties, service contracts, operating manuals, licenses and permits; oversees maintenance of laboratory equipment in order to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards. Manages the laboratory Business Continuity Plan.
- Troubleshoots problems and designs training according to government regulations.
- Laboratory liaison to the Department/Center administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
