The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiasednews in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.

The Associated Press seeks a talented customer success manager to build and nurture collaborative relationships with customers of our Elections Services products. In this role, you will serve as the customer's representative inside our newsroom, working on behalf of subscribers to AP's vote count and related election data services to anticipate the needs of our most valuable customers and satisfy those needs well before they need to ask for help. Reporting to the general manager for Elections Services, and based in our bureau in Washington, D.C., you will work closely across a team of reporters, researchers, editors, data scientists and software engineers whose work fulfills AP's unique role in the American democracy.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for senior subscribers to the AP vote count and our related Elections Services products. You will have - or will quickly develop - a deep understanding of how AP counts the vote and how AP declares winners in U.S. elections, and you'll use that knowledge to support customers whose coverage of elections is dependent on those services. We're looking for someone who enjoys the story of elections and is eager to take care of the journalists who use AP's elections data to tell that story to their audience. You will be comfortable working with customers who are America's leading elections experts and helping them get the answers to hard questions on tight deadlines.

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Become a subject matter expert in AP's Elections Services products and processes. We don't expect you to know it all on Day 1, but you'll have an innate curiosity about what we do and be eager to share what you learn.
  • Proactively manage AP's relationship with the most senior customers of our Election Services products, building sustainable relationships to ensure their needs are always met.
  • Communicate with confidence across multiple platforms (phone to email, Slack to text, Zoom to Teams) about AP's elections coverage plans ahead of Election Day, and about our Vote Count and race calling operations after polls close.
  • Attend and participate in technical meetings with our team and with customers, collecting their requirements and working with our team to ensure they are met.
  • Quickly become part of a solutions-oriented team that combines swift reporting on essential news about elections with an intense focus on the success of our customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, such as at least five years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.
  • All applicants must be able to work in the U.S. or be able to gain permission to do so.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
  • The ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as AP is a 24/7 operation and polls almost always close after the end of the business day.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and planning skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex story lines.

Preferred Qualifications: You might come to AP with a background in a newsroom, at a technology company, from academia or a non-profit. What's essential is that you already understand more than just the basics of how elections work in America, and you have the capacity to quickly develop subject matter expertise across the full suite of AP's Election Service products.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment: During a busy election season, AP will count the vote in thousands of races contested by tens of thousands of candidates.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, harboring a sense of urgency for meeting the needs of our customers while maintaining a calm demeanor in stressful situations. You'll be comfortable speaking for them - and to them - as we count the vote and declare winners up and down the ballot.

You understand that there's always more to know, and you expect to learn from your teammates in addition to sharing what you know. You're looking for a collegial environment that involves consistent communication, and you enjoy sharing ideas with people from diverse backgrounds, areas of expertise and experience.

We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000, negotiable based on experience, qualifications, market location and other job-related factors.

The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits which include:

  • Competitive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Retirement benefits
  • Company paid life insurance
  • Paid vacation and sick days
  • Paid parental leave for any new parent

Application deadline is August 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
