Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking two experienced Radar and Instrument Technicians supporting the Global Precipitation Measurement Mission (GPM) Ground Validation (V) program at NASA Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). The selected candidates will work closely with NASA scientists and engineers to operate and maintain NPOL and D3R radar.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Maintain, calibrate, and operate polarization, S-band research radar (NPOL), including its SIGMET/Vaisala IRIS hardware/software and data systems, at its home location near WFF and during occasional scientific remote field deployments.
- As required and in collaboration with the NASA Task Manager (TM) or designated TM Alternate, contractor will manage logistics of remote site preparation and execute setup and teardown of the NPOL radar for remote field deployments. The contractor will also manage transport and shipping to and from field deployments.
- Complete monthly engineering procedures and document proper operation and calibration of the NPOL radar, including evaluation of all polarimetric products.
- Maintain NPOL radar operations documentation and logs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in dual-polarization, dual-frequency and Doppler radars.
- Experience in the operation of NPOL.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience supporting NASA or similar government remote sensing missions.
- Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams for spaceflight or airborne instrument development.
- Certifications: Commercial Driver's License, NASA Certified Operator of Aerial Lifts, Overhead Crane, Forklift, Basket Truck, Mobile Crane, Manlift, and Rigging.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
