POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Major Giving & Individual Giving, the Director, Annual Fund & Community Giving Initiatives will drive revenue growth and innovative development of BMC's entry level individual donor population (gifts up to $25,000). The Director will increase BMCHS flexible dollars from this giving band, expand our entry-level donor base in a multi-pronged approach, and advance a team charged with our annual fund efforts (direct mail, segmentation, portfolio management) and community giving programs (Team BMC, including Marathon and Winter Walk, affinity groups, and various other community-led giving programs). The Director will develop and implement a clear, ambitious vision for year-over-year revenue growth within this donor population and will be a key driver in helping to populate long-term pipeline prospect development for Major Gifts and Planned Giving portfolios. The Director supervises two Associate Directors, and provides leadership and guidance in the oversight of their direct reports.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Lead strategic development and growth of entry-level giving band (gifts up to $25,000) and pipeline through new and existing annual fund and community giving infrastructure. Implement and execute strategy to significantly increase these revenue lines, in both dollars and individuals, over a targeted time horizon.

  • Responsible for a minimum of $4M in philanthropic revenue annually, across annual fund and community giving initiatives.

  • Develop meaningful KPIs for team members and revenue units that promote donor acquisition, retention, participation, and upgrades. Meet and exceed revenue targets, as established during annual goal-setting process, with a focus on driving unrestricted and flexible revenue for BMCHS's highest needs and priorities.

  • Direct, Mentor, manage, and empower Annual Fund & Community Giving Initiatives team members

  • Strengthen processes to transition community-led fundraising donors into longer-term annual fund and sustaining donors. Partner with Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Research colleagues to identify and transition prospects into new portfolio, when appropriate, to maximize donor experience and engagement.

  • Provide strong oversight for associated Annual Fund and Community Giving budgets; ensure that various investments (print pieces, acquisition tools, small gatherings, various other expenses, etc.) are evaluated and tied to increase revenue. Ability to discern and sunset investments that are not meeting ROI expectations.

  • In partnership with Operations, leverage and evaluate new and existing technologies to strategically reach & engage annual fund and community donors. Train and educate colleagues on how to fully deploy these technologies when appropriate.

  • Provide oversight of fundraising volunteers; work with the team to establish clearly articulated revenue goals and expectations of volunteer fundraisers.

  • Collaborate with Events team around BMCHS's signature events and direct team members on host and volunteer engagement initiatives to broaden BMCHS's donor network.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of various acquisition and retention strategies using NXT and other available data to inform decision making & direction.

  • Provide direction on budding annual fund and community giving initiatives at BMCHS's two newly added hospitals: BMC-Brighton and BMC-South. In partnership with other key BMCHS Development staff, educate and implement fundraising best practices at these new sites.

  • Participate in annual goal setting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10-12 years of relevant experience in non-profit fundraising, of which at least 5 years must be management experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience leveraging technology and information to creatively identify prospects, retain and upgrade donors, steward gifts, and inform future investments in program growth

  • Experience partnering with clinical/programmatic and other internal leaders


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Non-profit fundraising experience in complex organizations such as higher education or health care.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):


  • Deep expertise in annual fund strategies and tactics (direct mail, segmentation, portfolio management, donor matches etc.) and community-led fundraising initiatives (marathon charity program participation, walks, volunteer engagement, etc.)

  • Strong fluency in NXT (or comparable CRM) and expertise in interpreting data and implementing strategic next steps based on reporting; commitment to goal-setting & adhering to established metrics

  • A proven track record of achieving or surpassing goals and developing annual fund and community fundraising strategy rooted in best practices in a medium-to-large, fast-paced nonprofit environment

  • Ability to manage and empower team members

  • Data driven

  • Demonstrated success in collaboration with Operations and Research colleagues
