Please reference "DOC General Counsel" in the subject line. The Vermont Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified and experienced attorney to serve as General Counsel. This position provides legal advice and representation on a broad range of correctional issues, including litigation, policy development, and compliance with state and federal laws. The General Counsel reports directly to the Commissioner of Corrections and plays a key role in guiding the Department's legal and strategic decisions. Admission to the Vermont Bar or eligibility for admission by waiver and a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible legal experience, including significant experience in litigation, legal advising, and policy development-preferably in a government or public safety setting.
