Walters Wholesale Electric Company, an affiliate of USESI, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic IT Intern to join our team. This position will be located in our Middletown, CT location.

Position Overview

US Electrical Services is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on IT Intern to assist in the physical handling and secure decommissioning of IT assets across the organization. This role focuses on sorting, packing, and coordinating logistics for non-serialized assets, as well as fully decommissioning serialized devices such as laptops, desktops, and other hardware. This internship provides valuable exposure to IT asset management processes, secure data handling, and operational coordination with third-party vendors.

Key Responsibilities:

Non-Serialized Asset Handling

  • Identify and sort non-serialized IT equipment such as keyboards, mice, cables, and monitors.
  • Safely pack items for bulk pickup or recycling.
  • Coordinate scheduled pickups with vendors or internal logistics teams.

Serialized Asset Decommissioning

  • Inventory serialized assets and document key details including make, model, and serial number.
  • Use approved tools to securely wipe data from drives in accordance with NIST 800-88 or equivalent standards.
  • Label and stage wiped devices for vendor review.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support vendor quoting and audit compliance.

Logistics & Coordination

  • Schedule and track outgoing shipments or pickups with authorized IT asset disposition (ITAD) vendors.
  • Ensure proper labeling and maintain chain of custody for outgoing asset batches.
  • Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams to maintain organized and secure staging areas.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Comfortable working with physical IT hardware and performing hands-on tasks.
  • Familiarity with basic hardware (PCs, laptops, peripherals).
  • Experience with data wiping tools or a willingness to be trained on secure wipe procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to lift and move items up to ~50 lbs.
