Overview

Job Purpose

The Senior Manager - MSSQL DBA Team is responsible for leading a global team of professional Database Administrators in the design, performance, and operational excellence of Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role requires a seasoned leader with a strong technical foundation, proven project delivery capabilities, and a track record of managing both business-as-usual (BAU) operations and complex, high-impact initiatives such as large-scale data center migrations. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with hands-on expertise in SQL Server internals, performance tuning, and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of professional DBAs, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the stability, performance, and availability of SQL Server environments, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to SLAs.
  • Manage and deliver complex, high-visibility projects-including data center migrations-on time and within scope.
  • Define and implement strategic initiatives for database modernization, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide deep technical leadership in SQL Server internals, performance optimization, and root cause analysis of production issues.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to align database solutions with business and technical requirements.
  • Design and implement scalable processes to improve team efficiency, consistency, and service delivery.
  • Drive automation of administrative tasks using scripting and tooling (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL).
  • Establish and enforce database governance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, translating technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role overseeing database teams.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration in enterprise environments.
  • Experience leading global teams and supporting 24/7 production systems is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across technical and business teams.
  • Demonstrated success managing BAU operations alongside complex project delivery.
  • Expertise in SQL Server internals, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
  • Ability to quickly understand application architectures and data flows to support performance and scalability.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL).
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure components (Windows Server, networking, storage, virtualization).
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
