HJF is seeking a Senior Research Nurse to coordinate the activities associated with treating patients for clinical trials. Assures accurate documentation is maintained, and all governing regulations are in compliance.

This position will be in support of the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i) of Uniformed Services University (USU) Department of Surgery. The Senior Research Nurse will be dual-located at the US Army Institute for Surgical Research and Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in the San Antonio, TX area. This position will support SC2i projects related to wound care and treatment. Specifically, the projects are focused on predicting onset of sepsis after a burn injury and on predicting optimal time for wound closure. SC2i is a Uniformed Services University center that leverages legacy information from service members, and critically ill civilian and military patients to develop biomarker-driven clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) with the goal of improving patient clinical outcomes and reducing costs across the injury/disease cycle.

  • Interviews patients for clinical trials and collects and analyzes data to validate eligibility and patient commitment.
  • Educates patients about the clinical trial, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information; serving as a resource for the patients.
  • Obtains pre-screening medical documents by communicating with appropriate sources.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients and physicians while facilitating the exchange of clinical information; presence in the operating room may be required upon request.
  • Collects data appropriate to the research protocol; documents in medical record/research record and on case report forms.
  • Prepares documents, under direction of project heads, reporting statistical analyses and descriptive data from patient's study books to be used in research reports.
  • Handles biospecimen collection, processing, and shipment.
  • Communicates with clinical staff regarding study needs such as bio-specimen collection type and timepoints.
  • Conducts patient follow-up as required.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This will include attendance of and participation in required training for role as a DoD contractor.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 9-10 years experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to research involving human subjects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background Clearance.


Licenses and Certifications



  • RN, Certification as CCRC or CCRP required.


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in a clinical setting.


Compensation



  • The annual salary/hourly pay range for this position is $88,600-$90,000. Actual salary/hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
