The newly establishedProgram for Memory Longevity (PML), led byAttila Losonczy, MD, PhD, in the O'Donnell Brain Institute (OBI)and theDepartment of Neuroscienceat the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center in Dallas, seeks applications formultiple postdoctoral fellow positionsto investigate memory mechanisms in the mammalian brain using innovative molecular, cellular, or imaging approaches in animal models and human tissue. The successful applicant will be embedded in the larger Neuroscience community at UTSW and OBI, and will benefit from a network of collaborations with research groups in the US and Europe.

Potential projects include:

  • In vitroelectrophysiology and imaging:

Characterizing synaptic and dendritic integration and plasticity of mouse and human hippocampal neurons using patch-clamp recording, single-cell electroporation, Patch-seq, and advanced imaging approaches.

  • In vivoimaging:

Characterizing synaptic plasticity during navigation and learning using two-photon calcium, voltage, and neurotransmitter imaging.

  • Molecular neurobiology:

Characterizing learning related plasticityin vivoandin vitrothrough multi-omics approaches (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics).

Education:Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Biochemistry Physics, (Electrical) Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field.

Description:This is a full-time postdoctoral fellow position in a neurobiology laboratory focusing on the synaptic and cellular/molecular mechanisms of learning and memory.

Required qualifications:Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • In vitroelectrophysiology:

Proficiency in whole-cell patch clamp recording, acute slice preparation, and/or cell culture electrophysiology, along with related data analysis methods using tools such as MATLAB or Python.

  • In vivoimaging:

Proficiency within vivotwo-photon calcium and/or voltage imaging techniques, including experimental execution and data analysis.

  • Molecular neurobiology:

Proficiency with techniques such as proteomics, transcriptomics and genomics, and related bioinformatics and statistical analysis techniques.
