Inova Center for Personalized Health is looking for a dedicated Coding Improvement Coordinator to join the Hospital Billing team. Full-time Day Shift: Monday-Friday, general office hours, working remotely.

This position is eligible for remote work for candidates residing in the following states - VA, MD, DC, DE, FL, GA, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, WV.

Coding Validation Specialist 3 Job Responsibilities:



  • Provides the one-on-one, small group, or large group onsite and/or remote education as needed. Identifies needs and coordinates clinical in-service education as warranted.
  • Conducts follow-up reinforcement training to ensure learning is hardwired.
  • Assists with the training and auditing of new Coders.
  • Reviews weekly auditor feedback and educates individual Coders based on the results.
  • Reviews patient accounts when requested by coding leadership for identification of missing coding or documentation opportunities resulting in validating or identifying areas for improvement for reimbursement.
  • Reviews weekly managed care denials and provides focused education to individuals or groups of coders as target areas are identified.
  • Reviews trends and provides education to the group on areas of concern (ex. DRGs).
  • Performs quarterly group audits based on denial trends or areas of opportunities where education was received.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Education: High School diploma or GED
  • Experience:

    • Five (5) years of coding audit experience.
    • At least seven (7) years of recent clinical documentation, coding or audit experience in acute hospital with RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification. The seven-year acute hospital requirement includes clinical work experience for certified coders who also have MD/RN/NP/Radiology Technician certification and at least three years of acute hospital coding experience.

  • Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist: CCS, RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification. CIRCC is recognized for outpatient interventional procedure positions. CPC is recognized for outpatient positions only. RHIA, RHIT, CCS. CPC recognized for dedicated outpatient Coding Improvement Coordinator positions. CIRCC certification is acceptable for interventional radiology Coding Improvement Coordinator positions.
