SUMMARY Working under no supervision, capable of independently evaluating the selection and/or modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria and systems to meet project goals. Performs sophisticated and complicated design tasks, studies, calculations, etc. Directs work efforts of other Designers and Drafters. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Applies standard engineering tasks and exhibits high level knowledge of applicable codes. Performs sophisticated and complex designs and calculations in accordance with established standards. Assists in planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work. Assists in determining scope of project work. Responsible for collecting field information and resolving field problems Prepares and coordinates engineering reports, studies, calculations, etc. Participates in conferences with client to establish project objectives and resolve design problems. Coordinates details and miscellaneous design criteria with other disciplines. Creates and maintains updated files of current jobs within the group including shop drawings, and other drawings. Directs work efforts of designers and drafters as required. Checks and approves drawings from all sources. Performs all duties required of designers. Demonstrates ability to get along with coworkers, customers and visitors. Performs other duties as assigned by manager. Education/Experience Position requires High School Education or equivalent and typically has 10 years of technical educational training and practical work experience. Must be highly proficient in the use of drafting instruments and/or CAD equipment. Must have extensive knowledge of applicable codes and discipline standards. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents, engineering drawings, etc. Ability to write routine and non-routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Mathematics Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions deal with abstract and concrete variables. Other Skills/Abilities Ability to operate calculator, office copier, fax and computer are required.
