TheSenior Director, Enterprise Activation Consultingplays a critical role in overseeing the delivery and execution of high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements as well as successfully building new business through existing and new-to-the organization clients. The Senior Director serves as the engagement executive with overall responsibility for quality of delivery, client relationship development, and overall project economics. The Senior Director is also an important member of the practice's leadership team, with responsibility to contribute to overall practice development needs, growth strategy, contributing positively to team culture, and taking on direct reporting relationships.

The Enterprise Activation practice within Optum Advisory focuses on cross-practice and pan-enterprise solutions, and works with health plan leaders on driving alignment, transformation, and change in their highest priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Overall engagement executive across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements and able to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues) and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to create strategic direction
  • Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client's ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
  • Industry expert in one or more areas and uses engagements to advance own knowledge
  • Principal point of relationship and escalation for client executives
  • Overall engagement execution including: quality of output, client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score), and profitability
  • Provides executive oversight of project economics and directs team to follow practices needed to ensure both quality and profitability
  • Provide subject matter expertise to other Optum Advisory and Optum Company business units as it relates to strategic planning
  • Provide support to other Optum Advisory and Optum Company business units when strategy expertise is required in addressing client issues
  • Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, clients, and other team members
  • Demonstrate solid relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
  • New business development efforts inclusive of: strategy sales to new clients, strategy sales to existing clients, sales of other Optum Advisory/Optum services and capabilities to new or existing clients
  • Lead development of intellectual capital and thought leadership collateral

Required Qualifications:



  • 7+ years of experience in either management or strategy consulting
  • Experience leading strategy work
  • Healthcare experience (payer/provider)
  • Consulting firm experience including engagement leadership, client relationship management, business development
  • Familiarity with a variety of problem-solving approaches and frameworks
  • Proven business development success and consultative sales experience in identifying and recommending new opportunities and initiatives for continual growth
  • Proven ability to drill down to the root cause of issues and be creative in problem solving
  • Proven ability and established track record of leading multiple projects and initiatives
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically, up to 60%-80%


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 8+ years of professional experience in healthcare
  • Experience and highly proficient in managing projects that achieved budget and timeline goals
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members
  • Healthcare payer experience
  • Background in healthcare consulting
  • Proven analytical reasoning and solution-focused problem solving
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
