Position Summary The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining all fixed assets of the university and ensuring that university materials are properly received, stored, and accounted for. This employee also handles the receipt, sorting, and distribution of interdepartmental and U.S. Mail. This position reports to the Purchasing Agent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains control of equipment purchased and located on campus through the use of identification tags and computerized inventory database.
- Conducts annual and special inventories as required.
- Coordinates the disposition of all university surplus equipment.
- Prepares periodic reports for management related to capital equipment and depreciation.
- Receives and coordinates distribution of materials purchased by the College.
- Repackages and returns items to vendors for refunds.
- Receives, sorts, and distributes interdepartmental and U.S. Mail.
- Registers, insures, weighs, and calculates mailing costs for letters and parcels.
- Sorts and distributes payroll checks to designated mailboxes.
- Performs daily bank runs as needed.
- Provides backup support for Facilities and Motor Pool.
- Assists the shipping/receiving clerk with all duties as needed.
- Supports the Bookstore and Food Service departments with material handling.
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months of related experience.
- Valid driver's license required upon start of position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Working Conditions

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outdoor weather conditions.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, handle or feel objects with their hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
