Full-Time/Regular STGi is currently seeking a Pharmacy Nurse-Licensed Vocational Nurse to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home. The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families. JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates resident pharmacy services and the timeliness of medication administration by monitoring pharmacy delivery and distribution of medication is timely and in compliance with all state/federal/VA regulations and STGi policies & procedures, while balancing cost vs care to meet the goals of Veteran Land Board and STGi through optimizing systems efficiently. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Implement and evaluate programs governing Rx services 2. Assist in development and use of VA and STGi pharmacy policies and procedures 3. Comply with VA Pharmacy formulary and complete non-formulary request form when a medication is not on the formulary 4. Comply with all VA reporting per VLB timelines 5. Review RX policy and procedures annually 6. Represent community with agencies as needed 7. Written and oral reports recommendations to VLB, DON and Administrator 8. Maintain liaison with families and residents as needed 9. Routine inspections of RX to ensure compliance 10. Report incident of blood exposure to blood or body fluids 11. Assist in tracking and trending the infection control 12. Ensure that physicians orders are in compliance 13. Supervise receipt and distribution of drugs in detail of accurate reconciliation 14. Maintain monthly reviews of drug regimen and report irregularities to DON 15. Randomly audit drug storage and medical supply areas to ensure compliance 16. Assist or be back up in drug destruction within regulations 17. Completion of all required team member training and educational classes 18. Productive working relationship with community team members and others 19. Does not disclose resident information, maintains HIPAA compliance per regulation 20. Observe and comply with all Community policies and procedures 21. Ensure supplies and equipment are on hand to meet the needs of the residents 22. Adhere to time clock punches in and out and meal times 23. Perform other duties as assigned. 24. Comply with VA Pharmacy formulary in balancing cost to care in pharmacy ordering, alternative substitutions and off formulary utilization. 25. Participates as a team member in the results of Survey findings of no more than 5 F tags with a scope and severity of no greater than "E" and no substandard quality of care, especially in the area of pharmacy and infection control programs. 26. Participates in the reduction of antipsychotic medication QM's to assist in achieving a rating 4 star or greater in CMS 5 Star ratings. 27. Participates in performance goals as relates to antipsychotic medication reduction. Required Skills
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Must possess, as a minimum, a license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years' experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or nursing care facility. Required Experience
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Must possess, as a minimum, a license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required prior to performing work, preferably from American Heart Association (AHA), or have the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands and work environment described herein is a representative of those that generally must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: * This position primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 30 lbs., approximately), and lifting (minimum weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 100 lbs., approximately). * The position requires repetitive finger movements as well as hearing and talking on the phone and in person. * Must be able to continuously deal effectively with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
