Position Summary
As a unit within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Student Success and Advising Center exists to maximize every student's opportunity for success through a personalized approach. We accomplish this through recruitment and outreach, academic advising, providing access to resources and opportunities, fostering academic and personal growth, leadership development, and career readiness, all within an inclusive environment.

The position works as part of the Student Success and Advising Center ( SSAC) team within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences ( FACS). The position reports to the SSAC Director and has responsibilities related to supporting the staff of the SSAC in the missions of academic advising, prospective student recruitment, and event planning. This position plans and maintains the office budget, supplies, and recruitment materials; making administrative, procedural, financial decisions and judgments while interpreting and adhering to UGA policies and procedures; assists and directs all visitors, students, faculty staff, and parents who reach our office. This position interacts regularly with prospective students, current students, constituents, and stakeholders internal and external to FACS to assist them with information about the College and its offerings.

Financial Management:

  • Manage the day-to-day SSAC budget.
  • Process travel, check requests, student organization reimbursement check requests, and foundation check requests to meet with budgetary goals making independent, administrative, procedural, financial decisions and judgments while interpreting and adhering to UGA policies and procedures.
  • Organize, order, and restock office supplies and recruitment materials through UGAmart and from other approved UGA vendors.
  • Work closely with the FACS Office of Finance and Human Resources and SSAC Director to plan and maintain office budget.

Duties/Responsibilities
Operational Management:

  • Oversee the process of front office management.
  • Initiate, develop, and sustain strong, positive relations with SSAC and FACS staff and faculty to ensure achievement of the mission and goals of the department and college.
  • Create a positive, professional environment for students and visitors by greeting all visitors, answering phones, taking messages, and directing calls.
  • Communicate information pertaining to University and office procedures, policies, regulations, programs, and activities, independently using discretion in sensitive cases when supporting students (current and prospective), faculty, staff, parents, and administrators.
  • Inform perspective students of our programs, majors, and offerings in the College.
  • Support up to 10 SSAC staff members with requests such as copying, filing, shredding, and the advising check-in process.
  • Coordinate the training supervision, and evaluation of four student staff members in office processes and procedures.
  • Maintain "Lost and Found" for the building.

Duties/Responsibilities
Administrative Management:

  • Enter and maintain classroom calendars for club meetings and all other SSAC events in UGA's 25Live room scheduling system.
  • Assist with the process for updating worksheets and bulletin changes.
  • Create and distribute course evaluations and results reports for the FACS courses using the QuestionPro survey software.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of agendas to fellow staff members for SSAC staff meetings.
  • Work with Assistant Director to support academic advising year-round including 20+ New Student Orientation sessions.
  • Mange the 13 Listservs for FACS students.
  • Monitor the departmental email account.
  • Send Dean's List and Presidential Scholar notification each semester.
  • Serve as the assistant to the SSAC Director.

Event and Programming Management:

  • Assist with event planning and programming for the SSAC such as Step Into Success Open House, UGA Welcome Events, FACS Convocation, and other related events and programming.
  • Supervise or assist with supervision of the work of student workers assigned to these events.

Student Organizations Management:

  • Provide leadership to all FACS student organizations and advisors.
  • Update student organization website, handbook, and other materials as needed.
  • Develop and implement other initiatives to elevate FACS student organizations.
  • Coordinate student fee allocation process, end of the year student organization meeting, and Back to School student organization meeting.
  • Supervise the work of student workers assigned to these events.
