Purpose of Position

Build or rebuild seats by replacing damaged frames and padding with fabrics.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Measure and cut fabric pieces with the aid of patterns or stencils and industrial cutting tools to precise sizes and dimensions.
  • Apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler and cut fabric to framework.
  • Attach finishes, including buttons, trim and other decorative accessories, to complete orders according to specifications.
  • Operate portable hand-sewing equipment and other industrial equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of work tools and upholstery machine.
  • Remove fasteners and strip upholstered seat down to its frame.
  • Replace warn coverings and padding.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of upholstery techniques by monitoring the upholstery industry to identify trends.
Minimum Education
  • High School diploma. Vocational School or apprenticeship as an upholsterer preferred.
Minimum Experience
  • Four (4) years of experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Working familiarity with sewing machines and other industry tools.
