Position Type: Full Time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt

Schedule: 7:00pm - 7:30am, Thursday - Saturday

Your role with us

The lead phlebotomist at Salem Health plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe collection of laboratory specimens, while also providing leadership and guidance to the phlebotomy team. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and patients. The lead phlebotomist will oversee daily operations, provide training and support to team members, and contribute to process improvements.

What you'll do

  • Leads and educates team members, promoting flexibility and teamwork, and serves as a resource for staff, while monitoring daily workload and coordinating adequate staffing.
  • Effectively communicates with manager, supervisor, and coworkers, prioritizing work for optimal efficiency, and resolving technical problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles and procedures, responds to questions, and assists in coordinating training for new policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality, uses interpersonal skills to convey a positive attitude, and ensures staff use downtime appropriately.
  • Reviews and creates standard operating policies and procedures, maintains equipment, and follows infection control and safety procedures.
  • Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, supports changes and improvements, and monitors supplies.
  • Resolves conflicts and provides constructive feedback, while maintaining a professional demeanor and supporting a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation, takes responsibility for professional development, and meets or exceeds hospital attendance standards.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy technician certification (ASCP/NHA/BHCO).
  • One year of related work experience in a laboratory area of comparable complexity and services, exhibiting extensive and current knowledge of laboratory operations.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing guidance and support to phlebotomists and other healthcare professionals, while maintaining a positive and supportive attitude is highly important.
