Job Summary:

The Medical Director of Anesthesia Services for UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center provides direct clinical, educational, and operational oversight of the anesthesia service and the perioperative service. The UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center is a high-volume facility focused on patient experience, quality, and efficiency.

The selected individual must maintain a full-time faculty position in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level. An MD or DO is required. In their faculty position, the individual must continue their clinical duties, which includes supervision of various trainees and learners in a clinical setting. Additionally, the faculty member is expected to maintain his or her academic productivity and scholarship activities.

Key Responsibilities:

The UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center Medical Director of Anesthesia Services will:

* Provide comprehensive operational oversight of all clinical services related to anesthesia in conjunction with the Vice Chair of Clinical Strategy & Community Engagement and the Chair of Anesthesiology.

* Provide fiscal and operational oversight of the service, including identifying and implementing strategies for growth

* Actively participate with perioperative committees & teams at the facility to improve patient care, patient safety (quality) & workflow efficiency (productivity) through the perioperative environment.

* Provide an effective and efficient workflow for preoperative evaluation and determination of appropriateness for patients scheduled at the facility.

o Involves coordination with nursing, APPs, and faculty who work at the eye center; coordination with PPS (pre-procedural services); and often coordination with primary care and surgical physicians

* Establish protocol and pathway-based care to ensure reproducible and optimal results for patients receiving care at the eye center

* Lead and support an inter-professional team of faculty and staff that includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and preoperative staff

* Responsible for learners that come through the service within the School of Medicine residency and fellowship programs and ensures that they receive a high standard of education (if applicable)

* Work with Facility and Department Leadership to identify and meet clinical needs including but not limited to:

* OR and call Staffing

* OR block time

* Involvement with faculty recruitment and development

* Actively work to further the clinical and academic missions of the Department of Anesthesiology and the School of Medicine

The UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center Medical Director of Anesthesia Services is an at-will position that can be changed at any time based on performance of specified duties.

This position reports directly to the Vice Chair of Adult Clinical Practice.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor:

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado
  • Board Certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • Currently appointed or able to be appointed to the University of Colorado School of Medicine faculty

Associate Professor:

* Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

* Must meet the SOM's requirements for Associate Professor rank. If hired at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, the candidate's title will be designated "Visiting," and the candidate will be required to submit their dossier through the promotions process in order to remove the "visiting" designation.

Professor:

* Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

* All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

  • Must meet the SOM's requirements for Professor rank. If hired at the rank of Professor, the candidate's title will be designated "Visiting Professor," and the candidate will be required to submit their dossier through the promotions process in order to remove the "visiting" designation.

Preferred:

  • At least 5 years attending experience and on track for promotion
  • Previous leadership role and/or demonstrated interest in leadership endeavors
  • Strong candidates will have at least six years of demonstrated clinical experience and previous leadership experience in management of an anesthesia service

Expectations:

The UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center Medical Director of Anesthesia Services will:

  • Spend approximately 50% of clinical time at UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center
  • Maintain effective working relationships and consistent communication with departmental leadership
  • Ensure consistency in decision-making for UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center Team (no one-off decisions)
  • Treat all employees fairly, equally and with respect
  • Ensure decision-making is in alignment with Departmental mission, goals and strategy
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding applicable financial, HR-related and other departmental leadership discussions

The starting salary for this position has been established as:

Assistant Professor - $330,165

Associate Professor - $337,928

Professor - $345,690

The above salaries are not inclusive of variable compensation, including call and incentive pay.

The selected candidate for the Medical Director of Anesthesia Services for UCHealth Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center will receive either a $17,500 stipend or 0.10FTE of protected time for serving in this role.
