Job SUMMARY

The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe operation of various light and heavy scrapping and recycling equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with Westlake Safety Policies.

  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility.

  • Provide safety leadership in promoting and creating a zero-injury safety culture.

  • Operate equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.

  • Set up and operate machines for routine established work.

  • Process treatment of materials.

  • Monitor equipment for proper operation.

  • Use specialized equipment.

  • Help maintain a clean environment.

  • Identify the material that is recyclable to process.

  • Adjust, program, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.

  • Accurately operate and devices.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities requested by the supervisor.

  • Use and read measuring tape

  • Use and read Speed Square

  • Work in a hot environment

  • Operate oven

  • Read drawing for radius needed

  • Set up bending table to a specific radius

  • Bend arch to specific radius

  • Read schedule

  • Read cut drawings

  • Cut call out angles on arches and frames

  • Operate 1-point welder

  • Properly clean all excess welds

  • Read labels to match with finished shape

  • As a backup:

  • Cut PW frame on manual GED saw

  • Weld frames on 4-point welder

  • Clean frames on Roboclean.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred

  • At least 1 year of experience in the field or related area.

  • Background in mechanics and electrical is a plus.

  • Ability to use basic computer software applications.

  • Experience in a scraping and recycling facility preferred.

  • Experience in manufacturing is a plus.

  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team.

  • Basic mathematical competencies.

  • Manual skills to operate machines, tools, and move parts.

  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation.

  • Must be able to prioritize, stay focused, and handle multiple, diverse responsibilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent changes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolong standing for up to 12 hours performing shift work or in a stationary position.

  • Bend or twist.

  • Complete repetitive movements.

  • Handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Lift/move up to 50 pounds.

  • Remove or replace items up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.

  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.

  • Ascend or descend stairs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Be exposed to temperature extremes inside or out.

  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable.

  • Wear all the required personal protective equipment.

  • Work in constant noise above 85 decibels.
