Position Highlights |
The Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of EMS is recruiting a Scientific Analyst I (Research Specialist, Sr.) to support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system planning, implementation and evaluation for grant-funded projects. The incumbent will have responsibility for coordinating or conducting critical parts of research projects such as specific rural EMS systems implementation, statistical analyses, data management and participant enrollment. Current projects include assisting with the implementation of a rural EMS training program and enrolling patients in the Pedi-Dose and Pedi-Part studies. The ideal candidate for this position will have general knowledge of EMS and EMS systems, be able to or have experience in research, with an interest in developing, implementing and evaluating a technology-based solution to rural health challenges. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Generate routine computerized statistical data for quality management by utilizing specific state and national databases.
- Perform routine computerized data reduction and analyses including statistical computations.
- Perform routine statistical analyses which include selecting appropriate analysis procedures, selecting data for analysis, reviewing validity and reliability of data.
- Generate draft statistical reports using applicable systems and perform an initial interpretation of research data for PI review.
- Prepare draft research progress reports to include summarized results for PI review.
- Identify and recommend system improvements for data analysis.
- Research and recommend new programs used to perform data analyses and produce written reports on the result of the analysis.
- Assist with execution of project plans and implementation of project technology.
- Assist with the implementation of quality improvement plans.
- Draft written communications on project technology for team review.
- Present initial data and analysis on project technology to internal team members.
- Present quality improvement plans to internal team members.
- Assist with writing research papers for publication.
- Assist faculty researchers in the preparation and writing of research proposals.
- Prepare and submit IRB applications.
- Maintain awareness of the status of all active studies.
- Participate in subject recruitment activities including verifying eligibility, pre-consent screening, and consenting according to protocol specifications.
- Execute the informed consent process according to Good Clinical Practices (GCP), procedures and other applicable policies.
- Communicate EMS system changes with multiple outside EMS agencies.
- Communicate EMS technology changes with multiple outside EMS agencies.
- Communicate new study protocols to department research staff and undergraduate research associates.
- Communicate study related issues to investigators, sponsors, coordinating centers, study coordinators, managers and other institutions in a timely fashion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Operational knowledge of Medical Direction and Southern Arizona Base Hospitals.
- Operational knowledge of Arizona Regulatory requirements related to Emergency Medical Services treatment and transportation.
- Operational and clinical understanding of Emergency Medical Services Mobile Integrated Healthcare models (such as Arizona Treat and Refer and Community Paramedicine).
- Operational knowledge of current Emergency Medical Services communication infrastructure.
- Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Skill in producing effective written communication, including presentations, developing policies and producing work products with limited supervision.
- Ability to utilize current technology available in telemedicine platforms, such as computers, tablets and smart phone technologies.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- 1 year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience using Emergency Medical Services Data and Quality Management software, specifically: Arizona Prehospital
- Information and EMS Registry System (AZ-PIERS)
- Experience using AZ State Trauma Registry.
- Experience using National databases, such as The National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS).
- Certification as a Paramedic.
