Job Overview

The Ophthalmic Tech - Certified Sr. will be responsible for conducting technical and administrative patient support activities that assist the professional staff (Ophthalmologist, Fellow, Optometrists Residents, etc.) in administering the healthcare and support needed for patients and families in the outpatient ophthalmic clinic. The Ophthalmic Tech will share in responsibility for the direction and coordination of clinical activities including overseeing the day-to-day operational functions for the clinical flow. This role will share time between direct patient care and administrative functions including technical knowledge related to specialty eye equipment. The Ophthalmic Tech Certified will mediate patient scheduling conflicts and concerns while communicating with physicians, leadership, and staff as appropriate.

Shift Details: 40 hours/week -- This will be Mon-Fri 8-5pm with some local travel between clinics required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

1. Manages time between direct patient care (70%) and administrative tasks (30%)
2. Maintains clinical organization including physician templates, staff schedules, office supply inventory, etc.
3. Works with departments when problems arise and takes the necessary action.
4. Mediates patient concerns; communicates with physicians, leadership, and staff as appropriate.
5. Oversees the technician use of computer system and clinical workflow to ensure maximum utilization and increased practice efficiency.
6. Suggests and implements changes as necessary to accommodate fluctuating patient load.
7. Serves as lead technician and assists front desk and optical staff when needed.
8. Coordinates repairs on clinical equipment.
9. Administer diagnostic tests.
10. Prepare and administer eye medications.
11. May conduct phone triage for follow up or current patients.
12. Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION - High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE - 2 years of work experience as an Ophthalmic Tech. Pediatric setting preferred.
EQUIVALENCY - N/A
CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. Certified Ophthalmic Medical Tech (COMT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) required.
LICENSURE - N/A

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
