What to Expect

Join the Megapack Site Controls team and help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. Our team designs control systems that integrate Megapacks with energy generation, such as solar, wind and gensets, into microgrids and utility-scale power plants. We do dynamics modeling, algorithm design, validation and support controls rollout to new applications. Our mission is to empower a seamless energy transition by delivering best-in-class power control systems.

We're looking for a Controls Engineer to help advance our mission by developing and optimizing control systems for power plants, microgrids, and other behind-the-meter applications. You'll also unlock new business for Tesla by creating controls that are adaptable to interconnection requirements around the world.

Our controls stack includes both industry-standard and custom-built software and hardware spanning embedded and server-side systems. Flexibility, an ability to understand and contribute to a diverse set of codebases and schematics, an eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders, and strong engineering leadership are key strengths we expect you to bring to the table.


What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with project, compliance, product and firmware/software teams to define requirements for new control behaviors
  • Develop and modify control algorithms, investigating corner-cases with simulations (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Verify control algorithms meet product requirements using HIL test setups (Typhoon) and merge them as part of our software and controls release process
  • Document and present designs clearly to gain organization buy-in
  • Support project and service teams in the deployment of controls to new applications
  • Define our technology roadmap and contribute to the larger goal of making our controls plug and play

What You'll Bring
  • Strong grasp of electrical engineering and control system fundamentals
  • Proficiency with designing power system controls in Simulink, PLC Structured Text or similar
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Rust, Python or Golan
  • Experience validating controls with SIL/HIL simulation environments
  • Ability to communicate findings in a concise & clear manner and ability to work cross functionally with engineering, business development, and deployment personne
  • A passion for sustainable energy

    Expected Compensation
    $111,200 - $246,720/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
