PURPOSE:


The Rotating Equipment Specialist reports directly to the Refinery's Reliability Lead and provides the necessary support to accomplish the refinery's reliability objectives for rotating equipment. This role is responsible to collect data, evaluate, troubleshoot, plan for improvements, and correct issues related to the reliability performance of the refinery's rotating equipment assets. This role requires technical acumen, and the ability to work hands on with stakeholders including maintenance, operations, technical, and management personnel. The successful candidate will have inherent knowledge of the types of rotating equipment onsite, and methodologies for monitoring, evaluating performance, and improving equipment that is not performing reliably.


KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Leads the rotating equipment reliability efforts in assigned areas of responsibility by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment performance, operation, and maintenance problems.
  • Works safely each day in accordance with Calumet, regulatory and site procedures.
  • Utilizes equipment and site data to evaluate and improve equipment specific reliability and maintenance strategies. Develop equipment asset strategies and champions reliability.
  • Assists in formulating, implementing, maintaining, and auditing Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Diagnostics Maintenance (PdM) programs and makes recommendations for reliability improvement and failure avoidance.
  • Assists Operations, and Maintenance Departments in developing procedures, training, and processes to ensure equipment is operated within its design parameters.
  • Advises project engineering on new capital designs and installations to ensure that equipment meets reliability, operability, and maintainability and RAGAGEP standards.
  • Gives input to equipment specifications and standards for reliability improvement.
  • Conducts problem solving and root cause failure analysis for rotating equipment issues.
  • Audits maintenance and contractors for satisfactory craftsmanship in work tasks to ensure reliability and assists in identifying internal learning gaps as necessary.
  • Champions the Bad Actor improvement process through identification and implementation of solutions for defect elimination.
  • Participate in audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality and failure investigation process.
  • Participates in Criticality evaluation for rotating equipment.
  • Recommends projects and/or studies to support overall plant reliability.
  • Assists in spare parts reviews and requirements for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability.
  • Other activities as assigned by the manager.


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience with refineries; specialty oils and petroleum preferred.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Certification in Vibration Analysis or experience with the use of handheld and installed monitoring equipment.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in rotating equipment field, Refining / Chemical, or related Industrial field with direct maintenance experience in millwright craft or supervision.
  • Flexible and willing to provide off-shift call-in support, must be available to work extra hours as needed and work outdoors in adverse weather conditions as needed.
  • Ability to multitask and manage conflicting and changing priorities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral); problem solving and analytical skills; computer literacy; team player, self-motivated and willingness to provide field guidance.
  • Familiar with Reliability centered principles.
  • Experience with JD Edwards of SAP and reliability software (e.g., RPM, Meridian, etc.).
  • Familiar with Root Cause analysis software (e.g., Think Reliability, Tap Root, etc.).
  • Able to obtain a TWIC card.

  • Working knowledge of function and design/operation of plant rotating and fixed equipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; repair maintenance of rotating equipment.
  • Experience in root cause analysis, strong troubleshooting capability and failure investigation and analyses, developing corrective action plans and tracking all rotating equipment KPI's.
  • Experience with using Vibration monitoring equipment and performing vibrational analysis.
  • Working knowledge of API codes for rotating equipment
  • Background in performing root cause failure analyses, developing corrective action plans, and tracking all rotating equipment KPI's.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.
  • Knowledge of CMMS and maintenance workflows and data
  • Proven safety experience/training and leadership regarding oil and gas operations including but not limited to: confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safe work permits, personal protective equipment, and other critical safety procedures.
  • Must possess skills in PC Workstation, Windows, and JD Edwards and SAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Must have excellent troubleshooting skills and problem-solving skills.
