Trajectory Execution Team Lead Location: Huntsville, Alabama Job Status: Full Time Clearance: Secret Systems Engineering Group, Inc. (SEG) is a highly regarded provider of air and missile defense threat and systems engineering and analysis. Principal customers include the U.S. Navy, Missile Defense Agency, and industry. SEG is headquartered in Columbia, MD and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Astrion Corporation. SEG is seeking enthusiastic candidates to be part of our threat missile modeling and simulation team. SEG provides an intellectually stimulating environment with excellent opportunities for technical and leadership growth. This position supports SEG's Aerospace Branch which develops foreign missile flight simulation models of adversary ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missile systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Candidate will perform studies and initial modeling efforts in support of various customer needs on quick-turn tasking with limited scopes.
- Candidate will oversee the development of intelligence-based quick-turn analytical models and tools to characterize and analyze threat ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aeroballistic, and hypersonic vehicle performance to include:
- Documenting key development decisions, gathering intelligence and engineering inputs and communications with customers, intelligence community, and modeling teammates for internal and external use.
- Disseminating intelligence information across team members
- Developing aerodynamics, mass properties, propulsion, guidance, navigation and control and seeker inputs and modules
- Conducting trade studies and documentation of efforts
- Developing flight concepts of operation
- Developing threat system launch-to-impact flight characterization
- Generating and evaluating digital trajectory data using 6-DOF simulation tools
- Initial characterization of threat missile performance variation and uncertainty
- Modeling of threat missile excursions
- Comparative analyses between intelligence information and 6-DOF simulation results
- Documenting and presenting work to internal and external customers
- Candidate will oversee systems engineering of technical dependencies with internal modelers and stakeholders throughout the 6DOF model development process.
- Candidate will coordinate internal and externally with a variety of stakeholders, including customers, national labs, and the intelligence community.
- Candidate will support ongoing activities in developing a high fidelity Six Degrees-of-Freedom (6-DOF) digital flight simulation environment to capture evolving threat flight characteristics
- Candidate will perform research and augmenting toolsets to enhance modeling techniques and improve current processes
- Candidate will perform analysis comparing intelligence information to existing data for acquisition design purposes.
- Candidate will develop and present briefings capturing analysis, intelligence information and technology trends.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must be US citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance.
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (advanced degrees preferred)
- Candidates must possess at least 15 years of applicable work experience
- Candidates should demonstrate experience and capability in one or more of the following areas: analysis and modeling of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and/or hypersonic systems, surface-to-air missile systems including flight dynamics, vehicle performance characterization, propulsion system design, supersonic/hypersonic aerodynamics prediction, guidance, navigation, control, and flight test data analysis
- Candidates must be familiar with MATLAB and/or Python programming languages
- Candidates must be able to communicate well through written documentation and oral presentations
Desired Qualifications:
- 20+ years' experience working in Threat Engineering or working on developing flight simulations for the U.S. Intelligence Community
- Experience working with the U.S. Scientific and Technical Intelligence Community
- Subject matter expertise and experience and capability in one or more of the following areas: analysis and modeling of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and/or hypersonic systems including flight dynamics, vehicle performance characterization, propulsion system design, supersonic/hypersonic aerodynamics prediction, guidance, navigation, control, seeker operations and decision logic, and flight test data analysis
- Candidates should possess working knowledge of C++ programming language
- Candidates should possess an active DoD SECRET clearance
- Master's or PhD degree in Aerospace, Astronautical, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics.
- Linux programming and scripting proficiency.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g. SVN or Git).
- Familiarity with a software ticketing system (e.g. JIRA).
- Experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
