Job Description

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides professional interpretation services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, healthcare providers and other members of the care team
  • Provides professional document translation services as needed in the department
  • Meets with clients to determine their resource needs and goals; screens patients using a social needs assessment to identify needs and barriers to accessing services
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community partners; works with Community Health Worker to identify community resources
  • As directed, will actively participate in community events
  • Documents interpretation and navigation services to provide continuity of care. Tracks services and monitors data to assure timely patient follow-up, as needed. Generates qualitative and quantitative reports as necessary, for program monitoring and evaluation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in combination of education and experience.
  • One year of experience in medical translation
  • Bridging the Gap certification, Certified Medical Interpreter certification, or equivalent national certification
  • Fluent in Spanish and English in speaking, reading, and writing, demonstrated by passing competency exam with a minimum score of 85%
  • Experience working with clients from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimal amount of direction.
  • If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university in public health, health promotion/education, social work, translation studies, or other closely related field
