Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Food Safety Specialist in our flexible printing manufacturing operation. This position will support the Rhinelander plant and report to the Quality Manager. The position will ensure that Rhinelander's Quality and Food Safety Management System consistently provides products and services which meet customer and brand requirements and that our food safety management system effectively meets the requirements of Printpack customers, consumers, regulators and registrars.This position will work Monday-Friday.
The ideal candidate will have skills that include: Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment, experience in administration of food safety programs, strong communication skills, and the ability to interact with customers and external auditors, experience leading teams, experience with facilities maintenance, ability to manage contractors, strong initiative, and ability to drive continuous improvement.A candidate with a background in HACCP Food Safety and applicable standards is desired.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Plant Leadership Team (PLT).
- Participate in a company-wide Food Safety and/or Quality Team (Food Safety Engagement Team, Printpack Management System Team, etc.).
- Oversee Plant FSMS, direct the Food Safety Team, and lead monthly meetings.
- Daily audit of the plant with follow-up to PLT on Food Safety findings and corrective action requests.
- In consultation with the appropriate corporate offices, help interpret all current and applicable laws, Food Safety Standards, certifications, Company policy and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure a clean and sanitary workplace.
- Provide awareness and in-depth training on Food Safety-related practices and requirements and ensure that the Plant Food Safety team has relevant training and competencies.
- Flexibility to work 2ndand 3rdshift to provide training and ensure Food Safety practices are being followed.
- Workday Learning Coordinator for Food Safety-related training.
- Manage and organize the work of the cross-functional Food Safety Team.
- Generate reports and complete documentation as necessary to identify trends, educate the workforce, and supply corporate leaders, customers, and government agencies with information they require.
- Conduct audits and inspections of plant activities and train others on conducting such audits and inspections.
- Inform the plant manager of conditions that could lead to potential violations of laws, Food Safety certification standard requirements, or company policies and procedures.
- Primary contact and liaison for all Internal and External (Certification Bodies and Customers) On-Site and Virtual Audits covering Quality ISO9001 and Food Safety ISO22000, TS22002-4 and Additional Requirements, including managing updates, audit schedules, payments preparation, follow-up activities related to audits and payments.
- Complete Locker Inspections (2 per/year), HACCP, Chemical and Raw Material Reviews.
- Hire and manage contractors and consultants where required to complete Food Safety activities in a timely manner and within budget.
- Manage the Plant Environmental microbially testing and swabbing program.
- Maintain working knowledge of customer Food Safety requirements (Version Updates) and review all Food Safety procedures and instructions, to ensure they remain current and align with Operating Procedure Manual Procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in the administration of a formal standardized quality management system, or equivalent education.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams, regulatory agencies, customers, and external auditors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess food safety risks, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience coordinating initiatives, leading teams, and facilitating meetings.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Prior experience administering food safety programs and preventive controls within a food safety regulatory framework
- Knowledge of FDA regulations and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards
- Prior experience with food safety laws and regulations
- Third-party auditing experience and understanding of audit processes
- FSSC (Food Safety System Certification) experience preferred
- Experience with reporting and documentation
- Understanding of third-party auditing and auditing experience.
- College degree in a related field (food safety, quality management, or sciences), or equivalent work experience
