ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for an Electrician to join our Operations Services team at our Picatinny Arsenal location. The position is onsite.

The Electrician's primary function of this job is to maintain, repair, and install equipment's electrical components at Picatinny Arsenal. Equipment responsible for includes, but is not limited to, Steam Boilers, Generators, Building Automation Systems, Infrared Heaters, Hydronic Boilers, VAVs, VFDs, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Condensate Return Systems, Transformers, Generators, Cogeneration, Air Compressors and other duties as deemed necessary.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • Maintain electrical installation knowledge to provide technical expertise as a competent and qualified person
  • Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance between site management and subcontractors
  • Support subcontractors through operations and knowledge of the electrical distribution system
  • Respond to emergency calls due to power outages or system failures
  • Assist maintenance and boiler technicians with work orders and on-site vendors
  • Perform daily rounds and inspections and observe and report abnormalities
  • Troubleshoot, install, and repair electrical systems as needed, this may include conduit and wiring
  • Operate and maintain electrical switching and racking safety devices
  • Occasional work at heights more than 10 feet and/or in confined spaces
  • Operation of motorized equipment including, but not limited to fork trucks, scissor lifts, man lifts, portable generators, weed trimmers, portable leaf blowers, snow removal equipment, etc
  • The ability to work after hours for service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment
  • Communicate with supervisors/management as to job progress and issues of assigned work
  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementation of operational excellence
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis as required
  • Enforce all safety requirements including, but not limited to:
  • Perform Lockout/Tagout of all facility equipment
  • Work in confined spaces and perform confined space entry
  • Wear Fall Protection when conditions require
  • Operate a man lift or scissor lift and forklift safely
  • Always use appropriate PPE
  • Above all, work safely and comply with all OSHA regulations
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area (requiring cleaning of non-office areas and maintaining the cleanliness of the Control Rooms and plants)
  • Understand electrical code requirements
  • Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of equipment following code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications
  • Connect power supply wires to equipment and connect cables and wires following manuals and schematics
  • Diagnoses components such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures using test equipment, and replace damage or broken wires and cables
  • Labels and identifies electrical panels and equipment
  • Pipe bending and threading for installation and repair of electrical raceways
  • Replace faulty electrical components of equipment, such as relays, switches, motors, VFDs, and contactors
  • Repair or replace faulty electronic components for the Building Automation System
  • May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment
  • Installation of wires and controls for the BAS
  • Performs basic inspections and testing on Company installed equipment
  • May be responsible for servicing boilers, chemical testing, performing PM's, routine maintenance, and repairs
  • COGEN and switchgear operation


Your background includes:



  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years' work experience as an electrician
  • Knowledge of boiler and HVAC systems


A bonus to have:



  • Associate's degree (AA or AS) or technical degree
  • Six to eight (6-8) years' related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • New Jersey State Electrical License
  • National Electrical Code Training
  • COGEN and switchgear experience
