Position Purpose |
The Library Collections Assistant performs a variety of duties associated with the circulation, transfer, and maintenance of Dartmouth Libraries' physical collections. This position reports to the Library Collections Operations Manager and is an important member of the Collection Management & Preservation team. Success in this position depends on the ability to work independently on projects and daily responsibilities, while also collaborating with partners across the institution to support shared goals.
This is a fully onsite position. |

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities |
- One to three years of library collections experience.
- Ability to comprehend complex and demanding filing systems.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated communication and organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, problem solve, and complete projects.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments.
- Ability to move or lift up to 50 lbs. regularly during the workday, and the ability to lift materials overhead.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to be trained on warehouse machinery, including manual and powered lifts, if needed.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 30 feet and in temperatures ranging from 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit, when required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education and experience.
- Prior experience working in an academic library environment.
- Experience with library systems such as Alma and ILLiad.

Key Accountabilities
Description |
Performs daily collection management and stacks maintenance duties at Baker-Berry Library, including reshelving circulating material. Ensures the accuracy of locations and labels so that resources are discoverable by users. Ingests and prepares new acquisitions and assigns shelving locations. |

Assists with regular collection management projects, including collections shifting, withdrawals, and shelf cleaning, as well as collection management special projects at both Baker-Berry and the Library Collections & Services Facility, as needed. |
