Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $103,510 - $137,121.6. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Engineering Services? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Services team. As Assistant Manager-Protection & Control, you'll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.

The Services organization is an integral part of S&C Electric Company and is dedicated to providing comprehensive service and support for S&C customers. The organization offers services and solutions that support S&C equipment, including field service, engineering, analytical services and customer support. These specialized divisions work collaboratively to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions for utility and Commercial and Industrial customer needs worldwide.

The Protection Solutions team manages the delivery of protection & control and automation projects from the pre-sale stage through post-commissioning customer support. This involves supporting the proposal process by solution development, designing, programming, performing factory acceptance testing and commissioning support. The team also provides specialized tier 3 technical support through the customer support process.

In addition to technical leadership, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in distribution protection and control systems for utilities and commercial & industrial customers. This role involves supporting the design and configuration of protective relays and other IEDs integrated with S&C's switchgear and participating in and supervising factory acceptance testing. The Assistant Manager-Protection & Control is responsible for the daily operations and short-term tactical implementation of departmental objectives and project execution. The candidate will work closely with project management, commercial production teams and customers to execute tasks. The candidate must have a strong record of building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive growth and align with the business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Operational Management

* Lead in developing and implementing the team's immediate and short-term goals and strategies.

* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Protection & Control team to ensure coordination, on-site project delivery and customer satisfaction.

* Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements, new products, systems, tools and features and mentor the team to remain competitive.

* Track and manage project budgets, schedules and resource allocation to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and meet quality standards.

* Conduct site visits, meet with key customer stakeholders, support business development activities and resolve project-related issues to bring projects back on track and ensure customer satisfaction.

* Maintain relationships with leaders across the organization (including sales, engineering, product development, operations, production, and safety) to foster cross-functional collaboration and align shared priorities.

* Share customer needs and feedback to support S&C product teams in planning enhancements to existing products and developing new products.

* Lead the development of Standard Work Practices to aid in effective and consistent project execution, focusing on simplifying design and increasing efficiency.

Safety

* Champion safe working practices and oversee the efforts to ensure the required tools, training and checks are in place to maintain zero lost time injury and other safety KPIs.

* Collaborate with the safety and environmental team to review and update the team's safety policies, procedures and practices and assist in conducting recurring safety walkdowns of the FAT area.

Business Development

* Serve as the primary technical and commercial point of contact for the commercial team and customers ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.

* Develop and price proposals for utility, commercial and industrial customers and coordinate with commercial operations as required for quotations.

* Engage with stakeholders to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including utilities, C&I customers, and data center developers, to remain on top of market trends to promote S&C's engineering capabilities.

Project Execution and Support

* Lead, supervise, and participate with a team of protection and control engineers in the design, execution, and factory acceptance testing (witnessed and non-customer witnessed) of protection and control systems integrated with S&C switchgear.

* Provide technical guidance to project team engineers to ensure design standards and work practices are implemented.

* Communicate and coordinate the FAT workflow with other department leaders while fostering strong working relationships throughout the value stream organizations.

* Ensure the FAT process and procedures comply with project specifications, industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) and customer requirements.

* Oversee and participate in the customer support process by troubleshooting Tier 3 cases related to protection and control.

* Ensure the quality, accuracy and timelines of all technical deliverables and reports.

People Management

* Direct and review the work of the team to accomplish operational results.

* Establish, monitor and hold team members accountable to clear responsibilities, provide ongoing performance feedback (both positive and development), address performance gaps promptly, and initiate corrective actions and approval for terminations where required.

* Support the growth and development of team members, recognize and reward their achievements, and proactively train, mentor and coach team members.

* Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules.

Reporting

* Monitor and prepare performance reports and communication results against operational objectives and KPIs with leadership and other key stakeholders as required.

* Act as a champion for Salesforce, Oracle, etc., and leverage reporting tools and dashboards to track goals and progress.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):

* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the electric power systems industry and at least 3 years of Utility or C&I distribution systems experience.

* Detailed knowledge of electrical utility distribution systems, power systems application engineering, and protection & control systems, as well as experience working with protection schemes, relay logic and programming IEDs.

* Demonstrated success in business development, customer relationship management and managing the proposal process.

* Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NEC, NERC and other relevant power systems standards.

* Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation) with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

* Interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships in person and a remote environment, fostering collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience

* Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling a team working across a heavy volume of diverse projects and adapting to changing priorities.

* The ability to travel to project and/or customer sites and industry events as required.

Preferred:

* Familiar with CRM systems (Salesforce desirable) to maintain and leverage data for reporting purposes.

* Proficient computer skills, including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

* Knowledge of S&C automation products and services

Major Physical Demands:

Sitting-Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks for 8 hours at a time approximately [5] days per week

Walking-Occasionally required to walk moderate distances multiple times each day while performing a FAT or on a job site

Manual Dexterity-Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools/office productivity equipment

Observation / Eyesight-Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors

Communication-Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls

Travel-Occasionally required to travel (up to 20%) and work extended hours when necessary. Required to travel overnight and infrequently, on weekends. Infrequently required to travel internationally.
