We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Chemical Process Engineer to join our team in Bloomfield, CT. The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for process development and production support of internal metal finishing operations, including sulfuric acid anodize, chemical conversion coatings, stainless steel passivation and other proprietary chemical processes.

Responsibilities:



  • Design, develop and implement chemical processes and related equipment for new and existing metal finishing operations.
  • Troubleshoot product quality issues. Provide engineering support for existing manufacturing operations and resolves issues related to the process chemistry and equipment. Work with Order Processing Team, Engineering, Materials Laboratory, and Sales Representatives to resolve issues.
  • Ensure that all metal finishing and related chemical processes adhere to customer specifications. Conducts routine specification reviews to industry standards and flows information to the Customer Specification Review Team.
  • Maintain and support all customer approvals for metal finishing and chemical processing. Participate in customer audits including, but not limited to, NADCAP, ISO and FAA. Document internal Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions, including revisions and updates, per customer specifications and raw material supplier's technical data sheets.
  • Responsible for developing internal standards on new and existing chemical processes to meet process capability objectives. Provides direction and training to production personnel executing chemical process operations. Supports efforts to assess and document proficiency and capability of chemical processing activities.
  • Maintain the chemical process record retention system in order to analyze performance of plating specifications for trends as required by NADCAP and ISO.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Makes recommendations for improvements to work processes.


  • Maintain clean and safe work environment. Implements and follows safety procedures and regulations both internally to Kaman and externally to OSHA by working in conjunction with environmental, health, and safety personnel.
  • Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.



Qualifications:



  • Education:

    • BS Degree Required in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field of study.




  • Experience:

    • 1+ year of related experience (including internships)
    • Manufacturing or metal finishing experience preferred
    • Practical experience in material sciences strongly preferred.

  • Occasional (15-40%) lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs.
