Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education
Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs ( CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools ( ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.

Experience
Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience with 3 years' experience. Certified Medical Assistant. Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association ( AHA) or the American Red Cross ( ARC) is required.

Certification / License
Current American Heart Association ( AHA) BLS certification required. Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).

Abilities | Knowledge
Provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in a clinic setting. Demonstrate possession of the competencies, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.

Position Overview




Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the nurses and medical providers in the medical clinic, women's health clinic and vaccination clinic. This person will be responsible for preparing patients for medical procedures and preparing equipment for daily operation. This position assists the physician and other healthcare providers with standards assignments and interpreting doctor's orders and diagnoses to patients. They screen patients, document vital signs and chief complaints, obtain lab specimens per protocol, and manage patient/office appointments.

The Certified Medical Assistant collaborates with the providers by performing vital signs, patient questionnaire intake, data entry and medical records management. They must perform laboratory procedures under the direct supervision of the Medical Laboratory Director. Duties include venous draws, Urinalysis, Occult blood testing, Raid Strep A testing and urine pregnancy test. Also responsible for inventory control (i.e.: ordering and restocking lab supplies); must also provide clerical support to the Medical Clinic.

Assists with and provides patient care services and customer services, as necessary. Maintains all patient care related documentation in hard copy and/or electronic medical records. Must demonstrate skill in clinical duties such as vitals, health history and other clinical duties as directed by clinicians. Duties include retrieving student medical records, making referrals for students, sending out letters for the medical providers; and calling students directly, setting up appointment times for medical providers and outside referrals. Possesses time management skills and the ability to multi task, good communication skills to assist patients and providers, as necessary.
