Temporary Nurse Practitioner

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to practice medical acts" by the Joint Subcommittee.

Degrees
Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as an NP is required.

Experience
3 years of RN experience strongly preferred.

The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states, as they relate to the area of work; knowledge of biological, social and psychological developmental processes at all ages; knowledge of techniques of interviewing and medically relevant history taking; knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory tests and findings, and therapeutic procedures as related to the area of work; knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods; knowledge of current and emerging developments in the field of medicine; ability to treat and diagnose a wide variety of diseases and injuries; ability to perform various clinical functions; ability to assess and interpret laboratory test results, clinical data and information relative to the patient's condition; ability to plan a regimen of care based on assessment and findings; ability to record accurately and complete all information necessary to evaluate and plan care; ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written format; ability to teach and counsel individuals, families and groups in areas of health maintenance, preventive medicine, and care of the sick; ability to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, patients, their families and the general public; ability to plan and conduct in-service training programs; and, ability to develop and implement health education and preventive medical programs.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide patient care to the students of NCCU, and collaborate with other medical providers, nurses, and support staff to provide professional, competent, caring and safe services to the student population. This position will obtain information through medical histories and perform physical examinations; order and interpret diagnostic studies such as lab work, x-rays and EKGs; diagnose, treat and monitor acute and chronic health issues such as infections, minor injuries, hypertension, diabetes and asthma; perform minor office procedures such as incision and drainage, and suturing; counsel in nutrition, diet and weight control; counsel in stress management and substance abuse; collaborate and coordinate treatment plans with other disciplines and providers, and perform related duties as required. The work is performed in collaboration with a physician. This position will help prepare students academically, professionally and foster student growth development by providing preventative education, and physical and mental health services.
