GENERAL STATEMENT:
The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Youth Ministries Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of all youth ministry programming associated with The Salvation Army in Kalispell, Montana.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide oversight for the spiritual development of children, teens and young adults per Salvation Army programming and direction.
- Coordinate, facilitate and oversee Youth Sunday School, Junior Soldiers, Junior Church, SAY Programs (Troops), Vacation Bible School, Youth Recognition Sundays, Court of Awards, and any other program/event associated with youth ministry.
- Identify, recruit, coordinate and train volunteers for youth programing (troop leaders, Sunday school teachers, drivers, chaperones, etc.). Ensure volunteers are cleared through application and background checking.
- Ensure the health and safety of program participants while maintaining a clean and safe work area and following applicable Salvation Army Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) policies and local, state and federal safety policies.
- Prepare and set up communication with program participants, parents, volunteers and co-workers.
- Create and develop programs to include Salvation Army program education, worship, games, recreational activities, arts/crafts, and music that will aid in attracting and retaining children, teens and young adults.
- Attend and participate in Sunday Morning Holiness Meeting.
- Ensure Protecting the Mission (PTM) policies are communicated and maintained among program participants, parents, volunteers and staff to ensure the safety or minors and vulnerable adults. Maintain PTM records and provide training for all corps program staff and volunteers, as required or along with Divisional PTM support.
- Maintain all youth programming records, tracking and paperwork (program registrations, permission slips, media releases, medical authorizations, etc.).
- Provide and or coordinate transportation to and from all Salvation Army programs and events, including out-of-state camps, conferences and retreats.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required, including but not limited to Protecting the Mission - child safety training, and The Salvation Army fleet safety training.
- Attend and report on youth related news at monthly Corps Council, Advisory Board, and Women's Auxiliary meetings
- Maintain statistics and complete reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to employee dress codes at all times when working.
- Shop for supplies as needed.
- Assist with seasonal efforts, which may include but are not limited to: Christmas Intake/Distribution, Kettle fund-raising program drop off/pick up, counting, and data entry.
- Other duties as assigned by Corps Officer(s).
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- An associate or bachelor's degree in youth education, social work or ministries, preferred
- Previous Salvation Army work or volunteer experience is beneficial
- A minimum of two years of prior youth programming oversight experience (i.e. troops, camps, Sunday school, youth group, etc.).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- This is a ministry support position within The Salvation Army and prospective candidates for this position must have the background in keeping with Salvation Army programming expectations, direction and policies.
- Must be able to discuss Salvation Army programming and tenants with children and adults in a relatable and engaging manner.
- Must have the ability to relate positively to people from diverse backgrounds.
- Be flexible and open to new ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things while keeping pace with multiple priorities.
- Have the ability to work well independently and in a detailed, professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to use basic office machines/equipment such as phone systems, printer and copier machines and a computer.
- Ability to complete Protecting the Mission - child safety training.
- Have or ability to complete CPR/First Aid training within an initial 90 days of employment.
- A valid and current State of Montana drivers' license.
- Age 21 for driving responsibilities, and ability to pass a State of Montana motor vehicle check as well as complete The Salvation Army driving test.
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
- Microsoft Office suite
- Able to work with multiple social media platforms
- Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
- Ability to operate telephone
- Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
- Ability to access and produce information from a computer
- Ability to understand written information

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated without noise, dust, dirt and similar.

Work Schedule / Location:
Sunday through Thursday, including some weeknights. In-person at The Salvation Army Kalispell Corps in Kalispell, MT.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.
Paid Vacation:
Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
