Operations Support Engineer

 

PEMEX Deer Park is seeking an Operations Support Engineer to be accountable for technical support and assurance to one or more Production Units within the PEMEX Deer Park Refinery. This position is seen as a technical development role with responsibility for monitoring process units to operate in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. The role will work in multi-disciplinary teams and will be required to manage conflicting priorities effectively through multiple Production Areas and teams. The OSE assignment offers a chance to cultivate expertise in manufacturing process technology, technical safety, and fundamental process engineering skills.

To succeed as an Operations Support Engineer, you must have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 1–5 years of process engineering in oil, gas, or petrochemical industries, with knowledge of refinery processes preferred.
  • Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Petro-SIM, ProMax, HYSYS) and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. full-time.
  • Ability to work at heights, walk long distances, and spend 15–25% of time in outdoor plant environments; occasional extended hours during events.

 

As an Operations Support Engineer, you will:

  • Proactively oversee production units to ensure safe, reliable, and profitable operation, collaborating with Operations Support Engineers on daily operations, projects, and margin improvement.
  • Deliver process engineering support for troubleshooting, special operations (startups, shutdowns, test runs), and complex problem resolution, including root cause analysis and solution implementation.
  • Lead technical evaluations and hazard mitigation for design or operational changes via the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Develop scopes of work, provide field execution support for equipment maintenance during turnarounds, and contribute to long-term strategy and system planning.
  • Guide operating targets, participate in PHAs, incident investigations, and cross-functional initiatives to maintain safety, compliance, and performance standards.
