Laboratory Animal Medicine Administration Technician

Essential Responsibilities

* Serve as on-site administrative/technical support for the Comparative Medicine (CM) Group, Comparative & Molecular Pathogenesis Branch, Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT) at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

* Coordinate/manage animal shipments.

* Coordinate feed reports, update feed spreadsheets, ship feed for annual analysis, and maintain feed records.

* Organize and manage health monitoring reports.

* Track sample submissions and case reports; create, update, and manage other reports; create/review documents.

* Organize and manage the Scientific Review of Animal Models (SRAM) database and files; coordinate/plan SRAM committee and investigator meetings.

* Generate reports to be used for reviews (technical, toxicity, etc.).

* Update records, maintain digital files, manage the internal CM webpage.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

* Education:

1. B.A./B.S degree in biology or related scientific field

2. M.S. degree in biology or related scientific field

* Experience:

1. > 5 years of laboratory experience

2. > 2 years of laboratory experience

* Overall > 1 year of laboratory animal medicine administration work

Skills

* Expertise and understanding of stock and strain names of rats and mice, the housing and handling of research animals, and the adherence to legal, regulatory, and guideline framework governing their use

* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and to meet deadlines.

* Excellent communication skills

* Computer literate

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
