Who we are and what we do:

TennCare is Tennessee's managed care Medicaid program that provides health insurance coverage to certain groups of low-income individuals such as pregnant women, children, caretaker relatives of young children, older adults, and adults with physical disabilities. TennCare provides coverage for approximately 1.7 million Tennesseans and operates with an annual budget of approximately $14 billion. It is run by the Division of TennCare with oversight and some funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). TennCare's mission is to improve the lives of Tennesseans by providing high-quality cost-effective care. Job Overview:

The Health Care Data Analyst will be a senior member of TennCare's Health Care Informatics (HCI) group within the Fiscal Division. HCI is a team of 22 data professionals providing data and analytics services to TennCare and external stakeholders. The group has two teams: Program Integrity Analytics, which identifies Medicaid-related waste, fraud, and abuse, and Managed Care Analytics, which handles fiscal reporting and supports decision-making. Analysts use SQL, SAS, Tableau, and Power BI to extract, validate, analyze, and report data. They develop reports, conduct analyses, and deliver insights. This position is on the Program Integrity Analytics team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Communicating with stakeholders to clarify and refine requests for data and analytic services
  2. Compiling and analyzing data responsive to user requests
  3. Writing advanced SQL queries or SAS programs
  4. Performing high-level statistical analyses
  5. Conducting peer reviews
  6. Performing data mining to identify waste, fraud, and abuse
  7. Providing actionable results to stakeholders
  8. Writing complex, accessible reports
  9. Developing and maintaining dashboards
  10. Giving verbal reports
  11. Documenting projects and processes
  12. Complying with data privacy regulations
  13. Continuing professional development
  14. Collaborating with management and internal teams on process improvements

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in a quantitative or related discipline (e.g., data science, epidemiology, biostatistics, etc) and at least two years of relevant professional work experience

A master's degree in quantitative or related discipline.
