Overview:

The Associate Director, IT Standards is a newly created and critical role designed to shape how Information Technology operates at scale within Alnylam. This role will serve as a key building block to Alnylam's 5-year IT transformation, supporting our continued growth through defined standards, improved transparency, cross-functional alignment, readiness for audit, automation, and continuous improvement. This leader will architect and implement a structured, standardized, and scalable service delivery framework - including a clearly defined service catalog, mapped end-to-end business processes, and embedded operational excellence. The role spans both strategy and execution, balancing compliance and automation with business enablement and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will be an expert at influencing cross-functional teams to embrace the beneficial change that comes with targeted process standardization, while simultaneously being their champion in operationalization it into the 'new ways of working' as the company moves into its future.

Location: Hybrid (Onsite 2+ Days/Week)

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and operationalize IT service standards: Partnering with IT Functional Leadership, develop a clearly defined and governed IT service catalog leveraging ITIL and other industry best practices. Ensure alignment between IT services and business value delivery

  • Lead end-to-end process mapping and optimization: Facilitate and document current- and future-state workflows tied to each service catalog item. Visualize how our current systems and automation tools support these processes, identifying areas for improvement

  • Drive compliance and audit readiness: Ensure IT practices and systems meet all relevant internal and external compliance requirements. Maintain accurate documentation and participate in audit preparation and response activities

  • Govern IT policy lifecycle: Oversee the development, rollout, and ongoing maintenance of IT policies, standards, and SOPs that underpin operational excellence

  • Evaluate and integrate technology for efficiency gains: Research and recommend process improvement and automation tools (e.g., ServiceNow Process Mining, UiPath, Microsoft Power Automate, SAP Signavio, Celonis) to enhance service delivery and reduce operational friction

  • Champion cross-functional alignment and change management: Collaborate with IT and business leaders to embed standards into daily operations. Lead with a facilitative approach to ensure adoption, engagement, and sustained value creation

  • Build and lead a Center of Excellence (CoE): Define and scale a CoE to support business analysis, facilitation, and process excellence capabilities across IT. This includes developing playbooks, best practices, stakeholder engagement frameworks, and enablement programs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree:At least a bachelor's degree in related field (e.g. IT, Computer Science etc) or a other related field with role experience is required.A master's degree preferred.

  • Relevant Experience:10+ years of experience in IT, with an understanding of key services an IT organization has to deliver. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of process design, business analysis and stakeholder group facilitation

  • Matrix Leadership:7+ years of experience in leading or managing teams is crucial, with expert communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to drive consensus through collaboration

  • Industry Background: Experience working within global, multi-functional IT industries - some background within biotech, pharma, or life sciences is a plus.

  • Fast Paced Environment: Ability to adapt quickly, problem-solve, and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving IT environment.
