Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's team in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our Safety Team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a hybrid role with a dynamic team across diverse disciplines, providing exposure to an array of projects varying in size and scope.

At VHB, our hybrid work environment mandates working from the office for three days per week and working from your primary residence for the remaining two days.

Responsibilities

    Support with authorship and development of project-related documentation for a range of transportation safety planning studies for local, regional, and State agencies
  • Conduct planning assessments using analytical tools such as GIS to evaluate data, identify trends, and develop documentation to summarize results and recommendations
  • Develop strategic messages that educate the community on the purpose, need, benefits and perceived impacts of transportation projects and programs
  • Participate in community and stakeholder engagement efforts to support the development of safety plans and studies
  • Assist in developing material for and facilitating safety stakeholder meetings (in person and virtual)
  • Track project deliverable progress in multiple systems and coordinate completion across teams
  • Interfacing with clients and/or external stakeholders on a daily basis through virtual and/or in-person meetings

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work across teams in a high paced environment
  • Ability to understand and translate complex, technical information into content appropriate for public consumption
  • Familiarity with transportation planning and resources (a focus on multimodal transportation preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and time management
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Ability to read and interpret federal and state terminology
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service

Qualifications

  • 0-1 year of planning experience, whether through coursework or professional experience
  • BA in Planning or related area of study relevant to specialization (e.g., Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Urban Design/Studies, Regional Planning, Sustainability Planning, Economics, Aviation, Civil Engineering, Urban Transportation Planning)
  • Experience related to the oversight of projects and agencies receiving federal and state funding (preferred)
  • Some experience with safety planning at the local, regional, or State level (preferred)
